I remember this as the old “Freight Merchants”and before that, “GEM”store, lol..people should appreciate the fact that this ISNT CHINATOWN, therefore, mainly Filipino vendors (not all ) are to be expected !! A lot of Kalihi area has large Filipino ❤️ population so why does it seem some people are so surprised..🤷🏻♀️ Try instead to appreciate some of the beautiful things about the culture -try to think outside of the Box ..)
learn how to make Pinakbet… okra, skinny eggplant, kabocha pumpkin, bitter melon, long beans.. . or, learn how to cook one Long Squash for soup or stir fry..? I’m not Filipino but was raised plantation.. have learned to cook some dishes (Thai and Vietnamese too🎋 ) that I love and also try to make interesting and yummy dishes to add some Spice to our family mealtimes..💃🏻 The Patis and black beans, Vinegars, shoyus, candied brown sugar, etc, are all very reasonable and I use it all in my local dishes !! also, it helps to be nice and friendly and ask questions about some of the off- brands..
(they will tell you the truth, if they know YOU -appreciate and respect their culture as well !!) There are countless-common vegetables and fruit available ( banana- papaya- 🥭 mango ( not hadens’ though.. ) potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, cabbage, watercress, celery, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, I always find something I need for my refrigerator go- to items 👍🏽…
the meat, not so fresh, sometimes 🥀 Dry shrimp (Opae ) 🦐🦐too expensive!! although if you do go to get pork or beef, go “Seven Sisters” the meat market on the right side.. they remember you and are friendlier ❤️ then the meat market on the left side.. ( owner is a Grouch 😤)
Iam thankful to have a open market close to my house that is open 7 days and all- day— Before time, I would catch bus 🚎to go to Chinatown… then gotta carry my heavy- load 🤯and ride bus back home :(
Mahalo Chinatown- Dillingham Market!! I really appreciate you being open for everyone!!!!

Good prices too.Farmers market! I love farmers market and what's more to love about it, is that you're supporting local farmers! You get fresh produce, fresh fish and other variety of seafood, meat (chicken, pig, and beef; like are you looking for a pig tongue because your wife is all of sudden having a craving? Look no further, they surely have it and many parts of each animals listed), longanisa, Filipino food, shirts 9 shirts for $20, 6 bags of different vegetables for $5 (dang good deal!), can food, oriental food also found here. It's a really great place for a quick shop, cash at selected vendors and debit/credit accepted at selected vendors too. As for an atm? There is one available at the corner (same building) by 7/11 side. Parking available for free with a 2 hour limit, street parking also available but with a parking meter, various other businesses in the same area. I like that this place is available for people who are getting off late from work because they close at 5 or 6pm. I haven't seen a restroom but there might be one available....
Read moreWow. Entered Chinatown for local grocery shopping in my Google Maps and missed the fact this was “Chinatown Market Place” BUT it was just what I needed. A quick grocery shop for local and relatively cheaper prices. Shared plaza parking and street parking available. Multiple vendors inside the CMP, so purchase accordingly. Some cashiers take credit cards/ Apple Pay with $10. Min. Fresh veggies, local eggs, seafood, butcher meats, Filipino store vendors and bakery spot. Personally, I found the prices way more reasonable minus certain aspects compared to Foodland and Don Quixote and Costco.
TIP: walk around the whole marketplace first to shop prices and selection. Worth it! This is now my “go to” local fresh veggie and fruit spot. Next time I’ll compare seafood and butcher meats!
BONUS TIP: knife sharpener onsite!
