Every year I go to Hood River and I love to sit out on the Hood River Port which is just a rocky road that goes out and you can see the water you get fresh air but now unfortunately they made everything a fire lane the only thing that could catch fire is the rocks. This way they can put no parking out there now they want paid to park not only here but all through the city and there's construction down the main street of the city so it's blocked you have a 3-hour maximum to shop or go eat food before you have to pay once again and then if you pay in the city it doesn't count for the port you have to pay a different thing for the port it's almost like going to Portland OR California I used to love absolutely shopping there most of the shops are friendly good service great food now I just go to Safeway and I'll buy a sandwich there and sit in their parking lot since the city wants you to pay to park everywhere else. And I'm thinking trucks or truckers aren't welcome there anymore they have special trucker signs now. So my question to the businesses is this the right move for business??? Especially in this economy.

  • I am updating my last review. I just got in touch with the Port of Hood River and a representative answered the phone! Unexpected! Her name was Christina. I explained that I had received an Invoice for a Toll that I had already paid at the time of crossing. She asked for the invoice number and then asked again if I’d paid cash both ways, to which I said yes, because that’s what I had done and she said ok, that the invoice was cancelled, which was absolutely the right thing to do! The one thing she said, that I found odd, was that if I hadn’t waited long enough for the “Green Light” before moving forward, this could trigger the camera to take a picture of my license plate. Hmmmm! If it’s that sensitive there should be instructions to wait until we see the green light! That felt like an excuse but I was still pleasantly surprised and relieved that I did not get any pushback! It restored some faith for me and was very much appreciated! Thank you Christina!! Original post. Last week, on 4/11 I received a bill from the Port of HR Breeze By for an unpaid toll for using the Breeze by on 3/17. I Did Not use the Breeze By. My husband and I were in Hood River for 2 days. We went for a hike on the Washington side on 3/17. I paid the $3.50 toll both ways with cash at the toll booth. I know this because you physically hand your money over to a person who then gives you your change back. I have no receipt for either transaction. I have never gotten a receipt from a toll booth. I have NO Problem paying a toll but paying for a toll I already paid is a problem! The options the Port of HR give to contest do not fit my situation. There is no recourse. I looked up the phone number and saw these very low reviews of the Port of HR. I called but their mailbox box was full, so I left a voicemail in the General mailbox with all the information on my invoice. I haven’t heard anything yet. But like one reviewer said this feels like a scam and to be charged late fees and told that if you don’t pay the toll, you may not be able to register your car through DMV is extreme! Like I said when I owe a toll, I have no problem paying it, but I already paid. And by all the poor reviews it’s hard not to feel like this is a scam. My husband also looked up more info because one reviewer was told the bridge is privately owned, it is privately owned by them. Look up: kgw.com/article/news/verify/oregon-ownership-status-determines-bridge-tolls. The Port of HR is receiving MANY complaints!! Look up HOOD RIVER toll complaints! I will either avoid the bridge from now on if this matter doesn’t get resolved in my favor or use only a card or get a receipt for cash transactions. It is very disheartening reading the many negative experiences folks are having. A plea To The PORT of HR. Make this right for everyone who has been impacted by your faulty system. Thank you. I am updating my review. I just got in touch with the port of Hood River and there Someone at the office her name was Christina and I explained that I had paid the toll and she did not hesitate to cancel the invoice, which was absolutely the right thing to do and very much appreciated! I was recently in town for a wedding. Didn't realize there was a toll bridge to get to the venue. Short version: Like others have mentioned, it seems like a racket. My issue is not affordability (though I am sure it is a burden on many folks who must use this bridge often) its that the overall amount you end up paying is NOT for bridge/road maintenance but to the company running the toll and the ease in which they can add on fees. This is why Oregonians are up in arms about more toll booths along I5.

Longer version: At the booth that day there wasn't an option to pay cash...I was handed a business card with instructions to pay online. I had sticker shock once the invoice came. Essentially double the toll because a processing fee is added.

Don't create an account with BreezeBy unless you must travel that bridge often. You can use the pay without BreezeBy instead.

This new BreezeBy system is an absolute joke, incredibly misleading and unethical. Customer support doesn't care about helping either. I crossed back in April to go on a weekend hike, didn't see any information about how to pay since the toll booth is no longer being staffed. I didn't receive any invoice until over a month later, where I was notified that the toll was already overdue and they had tacked on a $25 late fee.

I emailed a screenshot of the verbiage from their website showing how misleading and unclear the information is. I explained that I never received an initial invoice within 14 days as the website states I should. Christina tells me she can't waive the late fee (even though I can clearly see posts on Reddit and online about others having the late fee waived).

Any other institution/business that sends a billing invoice always does so before the bill is due. They then typically send a reminder/warning before adding on a late fee. Likewise, when someone makes an honest mistake I've always found customer support to be understanding and waive the fee one time (banks, medical clinics, ride shares, bike shares, etc).

After Christina refused to waive my late fee, she then tried to offer me a "discount" to sign up for a BreezeBy account. Which isn't a discount at all, it's another scam where you have to upload a minimum of $20 to get a 50% "discount" on each crossing. But you can never have less than $10 on your account and must always reload in $10 increments. This is such a waste of money for visitors who don't live near Hood River, don't even bother. I will be avoiding this bridge from now on and am looking forward to the class action lawsuit. I've never seen so many negative Google reviews, especially in the span of...
