I was recently in town for a wedding. Didn't realize there was a toll bridge to get to the venue. Short version: Like others have mentioned, it seems like a racket. My issue is not affordability (though I am sure it is a burden on many folks who must use this bridge often) its that the overall amount you end up paying is NOT for bridge/road maintenance but to the company running the toll and the ease in which they can add on fees. This is why Oregonians are up in arms about more toll booths along I5.
Longer version: At the booth that day there wasn't an option to pay cash...I was handed a business card with instructions to pay online. I had sticker shock once the invoice came. Essentially double the toll because a processing fee is added.
Don't create an account with BreezeBy unless you must travel that bridge often. You can use the pay without BreezeBy instead.
Read moreThis new BreezeBy system is an absolute joke, incredibly misleading and unethical. Customer support doesn't care about helping either. I crossed back in April to go on a weekend hike, didn't see any information about how to pay since the toll booth is no longer being staffed. I didn't receive any invoice until over a month later, where I was notified that the toll was already overdue and they had tacked on a $25 late fee.
I emailed a screenshot of the verbiage from their website showing how misleading and unclear the information is. I explained that I never received an initial invoice within 14 days as the website states I should. Christina tells me she can't waive the late fee (even though I can clearly see posts on Reddit and online about others having the late fee waived).
Any other institution/business that sends a billing invoice always does so before the bill is due. They then typically send a reminder/warning before adding on a late fee. Likewise, when someone makes an honest mistake I've always found customer support to be understanding and waive the fee one time (banks, medical clinics, ride shares, bike shares, etc).
After Christina refused to waive my late fee, she then tried to offer me a "discount" to sign up for a BreezeBy account. Which isn't a discount at all, it's another scam where you have to upload a minimum of $20 to get a 50% "discount" on each crossing. But you can never have less than $10 on your account and must always reload in $10 increments. This is such a waste of money for visitors who don't live near Hood River, don't even bother. I will be avoiding this bridge from now on and am looking forward to the class action lawsuit. I've never seen so many negative Google reviews, especially in the span of...
