Itâs so funny reading the other reviews, and in response to them real quick, if you had a question while you were in there, did you actually approach and ask the employee for help, or just assume they were rude? And why would you try to haggle a price at a retail store? Support local businesses, and donât try to force them to lower their prices!
Anyway, onto my review, but I thoroughly enjoyed coming here! Iâm recently very new to Hood River county and was recommended this book store far too many times to count. As soon as I walked in, I saw why. I felt bad, but as soon as you walk in, thereâs a narrow walkway lined with some new, some old, but all very unique & interesting books, and I just wanted to stop right there and browse, but I didnât want to hog the walkway!
I could almost see the lack or organization that some people have mentioned, but if youâre going in for a specific book or specific author, I would just ask the front desk to help me locate them, because they know the shop the best. I think itâs fun that everything is just broken up by genre, because then you can just pick a genre youâre interested in, and scour the shelves for as long as you want for anything that jumps out at you. There were also some âclassicâ books that I wanted to pick up that I hadnât read yet, and they had all of them in stock!
The owner is friendly & personable, the prices are affordable, the employees are pleasant, the art is so bad itâs great, and the book selection is incredible! I think my only gripe is that I wish the neon Bart on the back wall had a price...
Read moreIf youâre a bookaholic in need of a fix, let this lil gem of a store be your one-stop ticket to satisfaction. From the first instant - before we even set foot inside the door - I was in love. Dollar books to lure the sentence seeker deeper into the stacks greet you just outside? Yep. Havenât seen that since waaaaay back in the day at Half Price Books⌠Once in, I remarked to my wife about the number of âshroomy titles at eye level. âThis is my kind of bookstore,â I proclaimed. The fiction section is burgeoning with offerings, a delectable selection of organized chaos divided into classics and contemporary, all reasonably priced. We couldâve lost a couple of hours in there, easily, and still not have covered half of it. So yeah, if youâre in Hood River and have a hankering for your next read - give Artifacts your time (and money). Itâs by FAR the greater of the two bookstores we checked out...
Read moreIf you come to Hood River and donât visit Artifacts, you missed an opportunity my friend. Turn that vehicle around and come back. If you are here, GO! Itâs a book store, like any other, sure. But it has so many goodies and all the bad art you could possibly need!! There is a reason, even as a resident of HR, that I represent Artifacts on my water bottle and computer. I LOVE IT THERE! If I need a gift or a postcard or tarot cards or stickers or soap, or even a book, I go to Artifacts. Yes, they even have books! Those are those small objects that you can open up and find pieces of paper with tiny little writing that provides you with a story of some sort. If you havenât heard of one, I strongly recommend. It helps that this place is hip and the owner is amazing. Donât take my...
