This is a great playground but there is one rule people need to be aware of. The splash pad doesn't open to the public until noon on Wednesdays because it's reserved for morning camp groups.
This rule is irrational for two reasons:
The splash pad is a public place just like the playground. Yet, the playground is not reserved.
The splash pad is used by only a handful of kids participating in the summer camp. In other words, there is plenty of room for everyone!
I went to the splash pad (without knowing this rule) and was told to leave by a staff member of the camp. I didn't believe her at first until her supervisor pointed me to the sign which comes confirmed their words. I expressed this was a ridiculous rule and that I did not want to leave. Nevertheless, I told my kids to leave the splash pad and remained in the shade by the splash pad.
A few minutes later the police approached me because the staff supervisor of this camp called the police after I told her I didn't want to leave and then COMPLIED. She then lied to the police officer saying was I was rude and aggressive. I was trying to demonstrate that I wasn't since I complied with her to no avail. Instead, I was banned from the playground in the name of "policy" for 30 days and was even threatened with bring arrested for trespassing if I showed up again within the 30 day time frame (which I already knew).
All I did was let my kids play at the splash pad, complied when they couldn't, and then had the policed called on me after I obeyed only to be banned.
Hope Mills needs to hire honest supervisors who know how to go through the appropriate channels instead of calling the police on a father who just wants his kids to enjoy a...
Read moreWe have been attending the 4th of July celebration at HM park for several years now. We always come when the festivities begin and we leave after the wonderful fireworks. We spend most of our time on the playground with our 5 yr old. By 5p.m. the playground was full of teenagers taking over the merry go round and climbing on top of the playground equipment making it dangerous for small children. On top of that there were adults walking close to the children playing with cigarettes in their hands. This should be a smoke free area. Finally, after sitting inside the park on a bench near the fence close to where the band was playing for 5 hours we were told we had to move to the other side of the fence which by that time was so thickly populated with people and dogs standing there was hardly a place to get through with a small child. We left the park and watched a few fireworks from our airconditioned car. Last time we will spend 4th...
Read moreAs the town comissoner's granddaughter, I can say that I adore this playground. It's the go to spot for a lot of teens and families a lot. Also, in reply to a review about the dam, the commissioners are concerned for the well being of the ecosystem, clean electricity, and another family friendly gathering area. If you were here before the dam breached, you'd know that there was a place to swim, Big T's, and lots of fun family and friend activities the took place. Also, not a single tax increase was made, and the previous contractors were sued due to their faults in the previous dam, so your tax money isn't just going towards the damn. If yoku dislike it, there are plenty of other places to live, or you should have elected different commissioners. However, I will tell you that you will not find a close knit town like this one. Attend a board meeting and you'll get to know about where the town's funds goes to instead of...
