Mister Taco — Restaurant in Hope Mills

Finally decided to try the new Mister Taco in Hope Mills, NC. Went to try it last Sunday, not realizing they closed @ 5pm on Sundays. You won't know this by simply going because there are no hours listed on the exterior of the building. I ordered the quesabirria tacos. Tacos were EXCELLENT. Wife ordered a CHEESE quesadilla with rice and beans. Rice and beans were stone cold when they got to the table. Cheese quesadilla was mediocre. They apparently don't use authentic white mexican cheese and simply use yellow shredded cheese...disappointing. The wait person did bring a fresh (this time hot) plate of rice and beans. They did offer to remove the order from the bill but we declined since they did bring a fresh plate. Seating in the place is limited and close quarters. The restroom is unisex. They do NOT have fountain drinks, only bottled selections, including water. Sorry, I am not paying for water. Recall the wife ordered a CHEESE quesadilla? We didn't notice this until AFTER paying the bill but we were charged for a CHICKEN quesadilla. That is our fault for not noticing it on the bill BEFORE we paid. If you pay in cash here, the price is cheaper than if you are paying with a card. Restroom was clean although finding it may present a challenge since there are no signs indicating where it is. Paper Towel dispenser was all but falling off the wall. Hot water was hot and it didn't take long for the water to get hot like in some places. Said I couldn’t have my birria tacos made with flour tortillas. I don’t like corn tortillas and everywhere else I get birria tacos it’s no problem to switch to flour. They said no here bc it t changes the taste. Which was the point of me wanting flour. Suddenly they could do it for a 2.50 upcharge. Felt like it was made up on the spot since they said no initially. Also charge for an extra slice of lime. Then they all kinda huddled together around me when I asked if it was extra for another like slice. Like I was being difficult and they were readying to escort me out lol over asking about the upcharge for an extra slice of lime. The whole experience was strange. I won’t be back of course. Honestly, I wouldn’t be leaving a review if the food was at least decent. I hate to say it (because I’m not trying to straight up dog the place) but those were the worst birria tacos I’ve ever had. The meat wasn’t shredded or pulled it was chunky and had no flavor. I thought the meat is generally cooked in the birria sauce they give you. I ordered pickup from here. When picked up the food I asked if they were certain the order was correct because the bag was tied in a tight knot. They assured me it was good to go. I drove all the way home and it wasn’t the food I ordered, and was also considerably less food. I didn’t want to drive all the way back so I called and spoke with the manager. They apologized and said the next time I ordered food that they would cover the cost because of the mistake. They wrote down my name and number.
