Pub 819 — Restaurant in Hopkins

Oh, man. I wanted to give this place 5 stars, but I just can't believe I will start by saying the food is absolutely amazing. We've ordered takeout so many times, and every time, it's been great. The true test was in person. The customer service was so terrible. The waitress wasn't around. When she did show up, she seemed very annoyed by us asking for more drinks. We waited an eternity to order our food well after all apps were gone and first round gone. We asked the manager for a drink and he wasn't happy to help at all. Everyone who brought drinks to the table seemed bothered to bring it. Someone had a medical issue and fell. There wasn't a single staff member who came and asked for anything, and the manager wasn't to be seen. It was quite sad. We started off with peanut butter old fashions, and they were a hit. Not overly strong, but you could completely taste the drink. it was smooth and delicious. Now, in to the food. The cheese curds were fried perfectly, and the dipping sauce was a perfect pair. The steak bites were incredible. So tender and covered in sauce. Those two apps are highly recommended. The burger is super juicy and cooked just as I ordered. The cubano was mmm perfect! All of the food we would eat again and again. It's some of the best pub food around. We will just continue with takeout. I highly recommend this joint, but I warn about the experience inside. First of all, its been ages since I left a review, but I just had to here. It was snowy and cold so I thought a hot toddy would be great. We have been there before and it was good every time but today was not. When we first arrived, I saw that there was only two hot cocktails on the menu - a coffee one and a cider one. I asked if they had hot cocoa and she said yes. I asked if they could spike it, she said no. I could have just ordered the cocoa and a shot of something but I decided not to since I'm a stinker and I felt like she should've offered that idea.😆 We had the tachos which were just "ok" and my daughter had boneless wings which she also said were "ok". I got the soup of the day which was broccoli cheddar. I've never had a broccoli cheddar soup that I didn't like. It was watery and the broccoli tasted burned. It was terrible! My daughter ordered a Shirley Temple and said it didn't taste good. I tried it and it was literally undrinkable. The bill came and she charged me $8 for the soup that I literally only ate one bite of... I won't even go into my friend's meal and drink 😅😅 But over $70 in! We won't be back. Very...

Food is displayed beautifully and taste combinations are absolutely delicious. Cocktails are unique, yet simple enough to be consistent in flavor and garnishing with any bartender. The atmosphere, where do I start? It's a perfect balance. Light levels are balanced well throughout the space, wood tones give a relaxing vibe, and details of the decor are subtle and interesting enough to hold your attention. Perfect place for a family meal, a casual business meeting, or to catch a game with friends.

Why three stars? There is an added surcharge to all tabs "to cover additional expenses that allow Pub 819 to provide a full range of benefits to their employees." When I see a line like this on my bill I'm immediately turned off from a venue. This is a super tacky way for a restaurant owner to increase revenue. Employee satisfaction and retention is not the responsibility of the customer in any business. If a restaurant needs more revenue, for ANY reason - increase prices. The difference between a $17 to $18 entrée and $12 to $13 cocktail isn't going to turn me away; tacky cash grabs tied to a management sob story...
