Once upon a time there was a very rich man who had a very grand museum. One day, two entrepreneurs came to his museum. They told him that they were artists, and that if he provided them with supplies, they would create the most beautiful work of art the museum had ever seen. The entrepreneurs informed the rich man that they would need the utmost secrecy in their painting methods, and they asked for a private room in which to practice. The rich man granted their wish, giving them a nice room and paint made of gold. The entrepreneurs worked for many days, using up most of the rich man's assets, and bragging about how good their art was. "Only the wise can see our art," they would boast. "Anyone who cannot see it is unfit to be called human." After many weeks, the painting was finally ready. The entrepreneurs showed their work to the rich man. The rich man had heard the rumors about their art, so when he only saw a solid color, he felt ashamed. He kept the opinion that he was not wise to himself, though. When the entrepreneurs addressed the paints and brushes of their painting, the rich man applauded. The rich man then showed off the picture to the whole world, saying it was the most beautiful painting in the US. Then, one day, a young boy visited the museum, and looked at the work of "art". He looked it up and down, frowned, and did a Google review. "I, at my young age, could do this! He said with a stunning review. This is not art, but it is chicken scratch!" The world was astounded, realizing that they had been duped by two entrepreneurs. And so ends the story of the rich man's...

This place is such a fun place to visit. It's not enormous, but it is large enough to spend a couple of hours getting to enjoy some really unique exhibits.

There is a large room upstairs that featured a San Antonio themed collection when i most recently went. There was such a variety of beautiful sculptures, paintings, and even video pieces. Im not going to pretend I'm familiar with these artists or follow their work, but there was such a nice variety of things to see, and it was really cool.

The much smaller downatairs level had an exhibit from Cary Liebowitz (sorry if it is misspelled) and it was awesome. Manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, even decorated plates were everywhere downstairs and they were so vibrant and interesting. I could have easily spent more time down there and would like to go back again before the collection moves on.

The building itself is in Montrose, so parking is a little hard to come by, but the museum is easy to find and the admission is free. Its not very far off the Metro Rail line, and once you're there you are near other museums, plenty of restaurants, and other entertainment.

If you are like me and havent been to a lot of museums or are intimidated by art because you are unfamiliar with it, this is a great place to start out. No snobbery, no paintings that are 300 years old created by someone half a world away. Friendly folks work here and the pieces are really accessible. Go here and...
