I am deeply grateful I was referred to Dr. Das. I'm a mid-thirties fella, very active and busy, and I suddenly suffered from diverticulitis with perforation last summer. I wouldn't wish that pain on a personal enemy. I'm also a professional who works in a high demand field, this disease is a nightmare in a lot of ways.
I then began a long, slow decline. Weight loss, loss of appetite, constipation, exhaustion, anxiety, chronic pain both direct and satellite. Mixed social opinions occurred : Do I get the surgery? It doesn't always work; I'm losing weight and looking good - just manage it. Or, this will catch up with you and you will have much worse consequences.
However, Dr. Das and his staff fought for me and my health. Every radiology report did not align with my internal sense of illness. "Slight thickening" - nothing serious. Dr. Das listened, recommended surgery after colonoscopy (the pictures showed no abscess, just inflammation which he found somewhat unique...), and ensured my insurance covered it, despite the 'weak' records. I think he knew something was not right. That sense, that critical sense, is so present and valuable in a doctor. Das has it.
Once in there, an abscess was discovered. The colon was resected, and just four days after surgery I'm better than I was just three days prior to surgery. Who knows how long I've suffered that hidden abscess. However, I have my vitality back, and am feeling great. I never knew how sick I was, but he did.
My recovery speed is a sign of his skill, both in designing my treatment but also the skills with his hands.
I would widely recommend Das to those in need of colon care, and I'm so grateful he's at UT Health, guiding future...

Picture this … the Doctor says we have found a mass in your mom’s colon! At any age that can cause fear and anxiety but my mom was 85 years old. Dr. Das was the recommended surgeon and he could have said, “ No she is too old”. Instead he took the time to meet with us and give us the hard cold facts. THAT saved my mom’s life. Dr Das was ALWAYS personable and took the time to explain exactly what was going to happen. It took three surgeries and chemo and lot of prayer as we went through this process. Dr Das was there through every step, explaining the good and the bad. His kindness and demeanor helped Mom and the rest of the family to remain calm during and after the procedures. Dr. Das will tell you exactly what is to come. Some of it may sound harsh but he always held Mom’s hand and ensured that she knew what was going to happen and what the next steps were going to entail. He carefully worked with and set up meetings with consulting doctors and ensured they were in agreement for next steps. I can’t Thank him enough for his care, concern and the time he took to actually get to know Mom. Even though it’s been over a year since her last surgery he still welcomes her and compliments her for being so strong. But I want to compliment him on taking the time to know and care for...

I have had problems with my colon for so long. I was hospitalized multiple times and I got transferred to the medical center. I saw two other colon surgeons, and they didn't seem like they really were interested or up to the task. One surgoen said I might need a bag for my diverticulitis.
When I met Dr Das I was taken by his confidence. He told me my case wasn't going to be easy but my family and me were assured by his being honest with us and talked about the risks. He was up front and honest. I felt like he was listening, and I felt like he took me through every step even though it was late in the day and i could tell his office was busy with all the buzz. One of the other patients in his waiting room kept telling other people how good a job he did for them -- which impressed us off the top right there.
Before our operation I felt like it was a winner to me.
Afterward I was happily shocked. I left the hospital the next day and the nurses were even surprised by his recover but one older nurse said how thats how Dr Das's patients always do. Now it's all behind me and I'm hitting golf balls better than I did before the surgery - maybe he fixed that to while he was in there!
I could not be more happy. First class, five stars all the way.
I guess some things are...
