Returned again for another stay here, 4/15-4/18/23, this time for a quick spring break 3-days weekend trip. We usually go in the summer and also have tried their competitor next door, which that property is bigger in size. However, our kids prefer the Waterfront, more family friendly. Kids enjoyed the "kids'" pool side with the two med-sized slides, a sloped pool entry for toddlers, and a sand area (an infinity sand area instead of an infinity pool. Lol) Lots of activities for kids, complimentary boogie boards, sand castle kits, ping pong table, giant chess, foosball table, board games, etc. Of course, there is also another pool where adults go. There are 2 towers, as many others have mentioned, Huntington and Dolphin Towers. The Dolphin tower is more of an upgrade and premium. Unless you plan to stay inside your room most of the time, then the Huntington Tower rooms should suffice, which we mostly selected previously, with the partial ocean and pool view. However, this time, we were really fortunate to have been upgraded to a premium oceanfront, 2qn bds, with wrap around balcony (Thanks!!)....views were 5. This past weekend, Temps were 67/65 but the pool was well-heated, that once you go in, you don't want to get out, which was awesome. If I could, I would prefer this time frame over the summertime weekends, as the summer weekends can be extremely crowded. Pool food jumped in price it seemed, ie, medium-sized nachos with 3 togo little guacamole containers (the ones you self-serve at taquerias) were $21 and 3-4 chicken fingers with fries were $15 but not much selections from pool menu... Price for pool side convenience, I suppose... I decided to be the poolside guy and went to the restaurant, Cabo Wabo, to order and bring back food. Oh, 1942 tequila was $65/shot!!! Cray cray! I don't recall that there was a shortage of 1942? Breakfast at Cabo Wabo was good, the standard fare. We never ate lunch or dinner onsite because there are so much food selections offsite. One complaint, gym was so small and lacking for a 4 rated and big property. The machine/tower station, with the pull-up bar, was dated too. The dumbell weights were good and went up to 75lbs. Service from our pool waiter, towel guys, and Cabo Wabo were great, 5. The valet staff generally were at least 4 service. Overall, a solid 4-4.5* property that we'll be returning again and again until kids go to college.

Especially for the price, this is the worst Hilton property at which I have ever stayed. The service was terrible. I waited around at two of the restaurants to try to get seated and finally gave up because no host or hostess was in sight, and the servers who were there were busy gabbing with each other, even when they saw me. I finally made my way over to a sort of snack bar, which took 20 minutes, and had the same kind of indifferent staff. Housekeeping never showed up, even after I called. The first night housekeeping told me not to worry, that they would show up on their schedule in the afternoon, but I left my room and took off the do not disturb sign when they were at the room next door and saw me leave, and they never bothered to enter or clean. At 10 PM, when they brought up some supplies after I called yet again, they didn’t remember the right ones to bring, and I had to call again. The only employees who did their jobs well were at the front desk and the bartenders, who were really nice. Usually when the service is this uniformly bad, and the workers seem indifferent to the customers, they are not happy with their jobs because of some thing management is doing. The functionality on the TV was broken, and the wireless was so slow that I couldn’t get any apps to load on it so finally just turned it off on my phone. And that was using the Hilton Honors wireless. The rooms were fine, and the balcony was nice, but the furniture was outdated, and the bathroom was tiny and outdated, more like something you would expect at a Day’s Inn (e.g., a plastic bathtub/shower and a single showerhead rather than the dual showerheads that cost $30 and are especially useful for washing off sand). The property is called beachfront, but it doesn’t have anything like the flavor of a beachfront hotel in Newport or Laguna beach, for example, where you walk out of your hotel onto the beach, with lots of local restaurants, shops, etc. around the boardwalk. it actually takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the water, including crossing over a major road. I just read several of the reviews over the last few months and wondered how the stars were being calculated because there are as many ones, twos, and threes as there are fours and fives, but it doesn’t look that way from the numerical reviews. So I went back and looked at the reviews, and as I suspected, the data are based on hundreds of old reviews, when virtually all of the guest ratings were 5/5. If they were calculated for the last three years, the average rating would be somewhere in the three star range, and the distribution of scores below it would show that about 40% of customers are now giving it a 1.2, or 3. P.S. A day later, after leaving bags I’d waste outside my door and calling for housekeeping, they came, but below is an example of what it didn’t occur to them to remove.

This hotel was the highlight of our Labor Day weekend trip! It was our first time staying at this resort and absolutely love the fact that this hotel is dog friendly. We made our reservations ahead of time and it was a little expensive due to it being over the holiday. We were able to check in an hour early and we were confused about our vehicle being parked by a valet. Please keep in mind we are first timers that had no idea what services are offered at the resort so we didn’t take advantage of all services. Anyways, when we checked in it wasn’t very busy and we were taken care of quickly and efficiently. Our pup was given a little gift baggy that included a poop bag dispenser, treats, collapsible bowl and a water bottle. There were many other well behaved dogs at the hotel and all the people at the hotel were so nice and kind. The room was perfect! We were on the second floor with a room facing the resort right next to the pool. The patio was very spacious with a patio set outside. The room was clean, bright and very well lit. Our pup loved the room! The only downside being next to the pool was the noise from music and people being in the pool, but most likely it’s during the time when most people wouldn’t be in their rooms sleeping. This place was amazing and very pet friendly and family friendly. There was foosball, a giant chess set and corn hole for people to play. There were restaurants inside the hotel and the food was pretty good. The location is perfect! The beach is right across the street. The dog beach is about a 45 minute walk away. We ended up driving there instead and parking can be difficult at the beach. We really did enjoy our stay here. It is pricier for us, but we feel it is totally worth it. The service was top notch. The room was perfect for our little family. The atmosphere here just felt very homey and the patrons were all very respectful. We plan on staying here again and making this place a regular for us.
