I decided to stay here because I was afraid of getting isolated at the notoriously unsocial UChicago. I'd say that was a good move. The community fellows make a lot of effort to get a community out from behind their books and do cooking together/ice cream sundays/film nights etc. That said, most people stay behind their books. But there's always a few friendly faces in the lounge downstairs. Hard Park itself ain't so great. It's the kind of neighbourhood it might be nice to raise kids in and the city is further than you think. The main drawback of IHouse is that it is NOISY, at least it is for me. Almost no effort is made to curb noise levels, which are high even though it's one of the least boisterous student communities in the country. The ceilings are as if they are made of paper, the doors on the corridor slam painfully throughout the night, outside my window is a faulty gargling air conditioner. In the end, it's a dorm. The rooms are quite clinically standardized, there are silly fire alarms caused by dust and the like throughout the year etc etc. - like I say, a dorm. But if you're afraid of getting isolated at UChicago, it might be the...
Read moreIt's kinda nice living here, but sometimes there are some people (aka Will, Sophia, Ella, Lucas, Pat, Brad, Chris, and Tiffany) who really steam my beans. I feel like I should be allowed to feel safe in my own home without having to cry myself to sleep. Sadly, this is not the case because I have people knocking on my door 24/7 asking to see me and sometimes I'm like nah that ain't it. However the vibes are very nice sometimes. The place gets very cold though and I need multiple blankies to sleep at night. This is my humble abode for two years but I will be gone the next, sadly. Send my regards to Kenyatta, Craig, Quest, Via, Tessa, and Jelani. They are all very nice people. Definitely makes this...
