We had a great time on our tour & the tour guide that we had for our group (we were split into 2 groups) was fantastic! She never made us feel like we were misbehaving (because we were & we're all over the age of 40! Lol!) and she stayed on track, as well as repeated information because some of us were either checking something else out that caught our eye or we were just talking. Kudos to the tour guides & ours MOST ESPECIALLY & although I cannot remember her name, she knows who she is! The house was beautiful & it was so Extremely cool that we could actually sit on the furniture & carefully touch historic items, to learn about the paintings & the history behind them. My personal favorite was the unfinished 3rd floor...wow!! The architecture is just phenomenal! My other favorite room was the kitchen/walk-in chiller room. Such great history. Kinda ironic that my 2 favorite places were for the servants back in the day. This was 1 of 2 things my Aunt Marsha wanted to do on her 70th birthday & thank you to the staff for helping make her day even...
Read moreWe tried to take a group out today to see the mansion. The lady at the counter was kind of rude and acted like she didn't want us there. I said i hadnt reserved a tour and the website said they do walk in tours. The lady very much acted like she was annoyed by that. I figured maybe they could just go look inside without a tour. I told her that the website didn't say you HAD to have a tour inside the house. I had people with me that couldn't climb stairs that would have been fine just seeing the first level. She also informed us that you can't have groups more than 10, which also their website does not state. I planned this trip for over a month and we were disappointed to basically be turned away. We showed up ready to pay and get to see the mansion and in return we got attitude. Also there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot so they weren't even busy. Very disappointed. Will try vaile mansion instead next time. They really need to post the information needed for the public on...
Read moreThe tour guide named Delores did a terrific job of showing me from the gift shop, to the video, and a walk through of the main home. She is a long time volunteer who was willing to spend time telling me stories about the estate, and listen to, and answer, all of my questions about the families and the property. A gentleman who has done a fabulous lego replica model of the estate let me back into the house to take pictures. One is a picture of a calling card table. He said the home has been used for filming a movie in the past. Special events are scheduled there and apparently some rentals for personal events. The original home still has the furniture that was refurbished to match the originals and as was the paint etc. Definitely, the tour, interior and exterior, and the lesson on history is worth much more than the $5 tour fee. I recommend this to any art, and or,...
