Main Street Coffee House — Restaurant in Independence

I am hugely disappointed! I tried to order from here on GrubHub because I thought they had nice alternative items you might not get from some other places, a nice coffee selection with alternative cream/milk options and I would be supporting the Independence Square; which is a bonus to me. The menu is truthfully very limited already; so one would think they would definitely have those items DAILY. I guess not! I ordered 2 of just about 2/3 of the menu items they had on their menu. Only to be called and told they don’t have the quiche, bagels, breakfast burritos, or muffins that I ordered. That is like 2/3 of your options and they don’t have them! I was flabbergasted. How can a place not have 2/3 of their entire menu! Then minutes later, I got another call telling me the online prices are not even correct, and that they will not cover the difference in price! This turned from a great experience to a HUGE disappointment very quickly. I had to cancel my entire order. This WOULD have turned into a place i would order from often; had they actually had the offerings they list; especially at the prices listed. Instead, I am left feeling that I should not be surprised, because when I think back to the days I used to visit this place on the square, they never seemed to have anything on the menu then either. I guess I should have remembered that and known better considering past history. The days of great customer service and pride in your offerings are clearly in the distant past. I love supporting the square but this might not be on that list anymore. One time too many I have been disappointed with their offerings (other than coffee). Great coffee selection, but when I enjoy a coffee; it is usually to accompany great pastry or food. A great coffee shop always makes sure it has things to nosh on…not just coffee. Do...

If I'm goin to Independence... Main Street Coffee House is certainly a great reason I leave an extra 45 minutes early to wherever. Walk thru the door... just step'n on & into the historic original old Oak floors & mixed with brick walls. YET, for all the "antique"... I was impressed how thoroughly beyond clean with coffee bean & fresh baked pastrie dough fragramce... my OCD was relaxed also... LoL! Cozy & hip & friemdly... will take U to relax & ponder over days in time. Overlook'n the square... I've seen ga-zillion times... still imagine what Mr. TRUMAN {before it was Mr. PRES} would order on his early a.m. walks. Bet it was coffee BLACK like a "real soldier man of his time" {NO RESIST'n a splash of flavour oils... tee hee} $$$$ NOW U'LL WANNA KNOW ... DELISH DISHES: Quiches... Chic Salad sam'ich piled so hi & made like Gma, except not on Wonder White Bread. U got choice. My Fav is on a bagel... not stale or hard as other Shoppe's try... Apple Bacon on it ALL! $$$$ YES... for approx $5!!! I think the Club it almost $6. ANYWHO... the coffee & teas are absolutely fab as well. I'm not much for a pot every morn'n. U don't wanna miss the skill & care in every cup. This is NOT a "fast food" dive. Staff is very good... in no way "slow service"... Ur purchase isn't tossed at U... that extra second they put into grinding, blending, prep & service of Ur food &/or drink... is best U've had for long time... maybe in this day & age crazy world. I'm sorry to report that his is the worst coffee shop I've ever set foot in. I went twice to make sure I didn't just get a bad barista on the first visit ordering cappuccino both times with similar results. They say their beans are from the Roasterie - if they are, they taste like they're from their dumpster. I took a friend on the second visit and he concurred on the quality of the coffee.

Perhaps their equipment was in dire need of maintenance/cleaning or other factors in their process are off, but something is wrong here. I know coffee moderately well as I roast my own beans and make espresso with a Rancilio Silvia at home. So I understand the myriad of factors that affect ones cup and the challenges involved.

I wanted this place to be good as I like to shop and dine on the Square now and then. They must rely on entertainment, being the only coffee shop in a great distance or the ignorance of their customers, as the quality of the espresso served is low.

Incredibly slow service on the first visit with two baristas on duty and only a couple of other customers. Inexcusable. Better service the second time, but still very slow. "Latte Land" or "Broadway Cafe" this ain't. Enter at your own risk.

I'm willing to give them one more try and hope they surprise me...
