Update 11/18/2024 Two weeks after my complaints to Costco Corporate someone sold my Costco Citi Card number. Fortunately Citi has a pretty good AI fraud detector and they caught the transactions ($800 worth charged in NYC). So, if you have a Costco Citi card then return it or don't use it. Also no one emailed or contacted me about my complaints (here below on 11/8/2024)
Review 11/8/2024 I think after 30 years (member since 1995) I am throwing in the towel with Costco and will be ending my membership. I can sum up my opinion of Costco in one word, "ARROGANCE". Here is the longer version: I used to shop at the Michigan Rd branch and when I could not take the arrogance of the Tire Center Cretins there one time, I complained but no one called back, no one cared. So I switched to the Castleton branch and today I was mistreated by two employees on the same day. I had a Tire Center appointment and entered via the Exit door (this is usual, right?) but one of the Exit door checkers immediately accosted me and in front of everyone dragged me all the way to the Entrance where they have the card scanners and made me scan my membership card and then led me back to the exit area. New rules. A few minutes later while trying to enter the Tire Service bay to sort out a Wheel Lock Key issue with my car I got yelled at by one "MAGGIE" because it seems we are not supposed to enter the bay "for our own safety". New rules again. I asked Maggie to get her Manager and she said "I AM THE MANAGER". A few minutes later another serious looking Tech emerged and asked me what the problem was (like he was the customer and I was the Manager) and I told him that I did not want to deal with one more rude person. Fortunately he was courteous and persisted and helped out. Some history: 3 weeks back I had dropped off this same car (new from Carvana and I did not know the wheel lock key was missing). They called me back and another nice Tech actually asked me to lift the chain guard and enter the bay so he could show me what the problem was - you see I did not know what a wheel lock key was. So can you blame me for just entering the bay this time around? Between the two visits I had purchased a new Wheel Lock key but unfortunately this also did not fit and they called me back and this was what I was trying to sort out. Also, no one was around in the Tire Center Bay, what am I supposed to do? Stand outside and yell for help? I am now afraid to even enter Costco! Don't know what new rules they have I might inadvertently break and who will yell at me. Anyway the day being trashed I returned home and called to speak to the Warehouse Manager. Someone came on the line and said "this is A.J". I asked him what the "A" and "J" stood for and he said, "Its A and its J and its the name my Mother gave me. Noting that he was refusing to give me his name I hung up and called after a few minutes. This time I reached an "Alex" and gave him the gist of my experience. At this point I decided to end my membership. I called Costco Services and talked to someone to cancel my membership. This genius mechanically went through doing the account security check etc and I started laughing and asked him, "don't you want to know why a member since 1995 wants to end their membership?" He told me, "well do you want to cancel your membership or do you want to laugh at me"? So, like I said, ARROGANCE. Costco is riding high and the Warehouse Managers don't care about Service because the money is rolling in. Only thing to do, take your...
Read moreThe couples times I have been to this one it just has not been pleasurable. The cashiers are always fabulous and even this time they were. The bakery staff and the concession staff were not very nice and even tried to create an issue when trying to preorder food for an upcoming event. I had called the store earlier to explain that I was over an hour away from their location but they were the closest to the venue where the food needed taken to. I was trying to find out how to preorder what was needed without having to make the drive all the way there . I was told the only way to preorder bakery was to fax them the request. I am not able to fax. I had to call back to talk to the food court and explained everything and was told that I could preorder 5 pizzas over the phone and if I needed more I would have to come in. I made the decision to drive the hour and seventeen minutes to get it done. At the bakery I had a question and asked an employee that was standing next to me if she could assist. I had to ask three different times before she finally said "what" without ever looking up. She was very annoyed I was asking her anything. I proceeded to the check out after submitting my order and sent my son to get the paper you fill out for the pizzas. He came back and said the girl told him they don't do that there. I finished checking out and went to the register at the court where you pay cash. I stood there for about ten minutes with no one ever looking up or acknowledging any customers. Just setting food in the counter and walking away. I finally walked over to the employee and asked her where the forms to preorder the pizzas were and she huffed and said she already said they don't do that there. If I want pizzas I have to go over to the kiosk and order. I said over there bc this is for a preorder. She got irritated and said where everyone else does it. I said I have cash and I need to preorder six pizzas. She said "are you serious?". I said yes and she puffed and rolled her eyes and said really. I said yes really so we walk over to the cash register and she was like are we good are we good are we good are we good. And I was like I'm sorry good for what? And she said what do you want I was like I just need three cheese pizza three pepperoni and then she repeated are you good a bunch of times again. She gave me the total I paid for it and then was like don't you need my name or anything and so she said well just give me your name and he said maybe your last name and then I was like that's all you need and she's like well just give me your member number so I handed her my card. Then I was like well I need to take a copy of the receipt so you guys have proof I paid and the only way I could do that was take a picture with my phone. Then she proceeds to tell me that I need to call that day and tell them that I need six pizzas but just cuz I paid and they put my name on there does not mean that they're actually going to make them. She also argued with me that I couldn't order more than five pizzas. On top of that they had the sidewalk completely blocked with carts so we weren't able to walk on the sidewalk from the handicap parking we had to walk in the road and it was pouring down rain. It was just a...
Read moreRealistically just here to complain on how many hoops I had to jump through to get a simple membership. 3 weeks ago I went and stood in line for over an hour while the desk was chatting it up with regulars and other coworkers. Later got service finally after setting up my entire setup on the app, to then need to redo it again with the clerk. Of which didn't seem to wanna be there cause of an obviously broken arm and having to put a fake smile on for everyone wasting time. 20mins later and many of deep breaths of frustration, seeming on my part somehow, we got a fully loaded gold membership confirmed email, app, and clerk saying we're good to go. So fast forward a week later, we go to make our first gas purchase at the same location we got membership. Cleak had to come over due to our cards not working and pass us on through in the system with theirs, saying we just need to purchase inside next time to "active" it. Odd, but we moved on. Later, today, we go into make our said first purchase, so we stack on up. Leading to the next issue, a very passionate and quick "you don't have one" when I try to buy. Odd again, so we get ushered upfront to get it figured out. In some sort of mess up on the front desk end, I was absolutely not "good to go". With further information saying "you never paid for it." And "I promise it'll be in your statements as purchased". Well, oddly enough even though a receipt was given and a fully activated account at the original membership purchase, somehow Chase didn't know they took and replaced said payment. So without any other resources other then "pay again, it'll work this time we promise". I'm genuinely not quite sure about it. So along with the stock of things we got, had to unfortunately cough up another $60 on the spot. From how "your ready to go" to "well that's your fault" at the snap of the fingers. No one there really seems like an enjoyable person and just seem rushed and annoyed at any inconvenience. From getting the membership, to the gas, to the people inside doing pretty routine grocery store working. I'd also hope folk get commission on the upgrade card, they seem like it's almost forced for them to let us know it from everyone, even when that same person just sent me to buy another membeship prior. Probably only gonna be back a few more times to pay off the worth of this card and leave it there. All in all, pretty horrible time for what I was sold as a worth...
