I've generally had good experiences at this store. However, my last few visits have gone drastically downhill.
A week ago, one of the workers and myself had a friendly / fun conversation regarding pricing of a card. We went back-and-forth on this as the condition wasn't pristine until a price was amicably reached. Unfortunately, it was still a bit too rich for my blood at the time and I respectfully passed.
Cut to a week later... I go back to the store and found the same employee as I thought this time I was ready to pull the trigger. I try to refresh his memory regarding our friendly talk prior and before I can finish he SNAPS back at me that, "prices change all the time" and what was established a week ago is absolutely no longer valid, "the card needs to be re-evaluated". What he failed to realize is that I was well aware of this fact and simply wanted to remind him we decided to lower the current market price based on the condition. The tone he used was completely condescending and offensive I just outright passed as he was still in the middle of his tirade. I ended up buying the card off TCGplayer in NM/M condition for $10 less from my phone while still in the store. I wanted to support their local business, but that interaction crossed the line.
On top of this, I had submitted a separate order immediately upon entering the store. I watched patrons lap my order, even ones with longer lists until I finally asked an employee if they had an idea where I was at in the queue. Upon checking, the order was ready, but simply waiting at the counter. Other customers were having their name called, yet there I sat waiting patiently as I perused the store... for an hour and a half! This isn't the first time this has happened either, simply the straw that broke the camel's back.
Overall, if you're located in the Indianapolis region and want a positive experience shopping for Magic cards, go to ComicBook University in Greenwood or The Game Preserve located at Keystone at the Crossing and a 2nd location also...
Read moreFirst time at this place. I bought a bunch of their $10 bulk boxes of commons/uncommons. I was curious what the breakdown of cards inside was like so I counted:
Average around 400-450 cards, no basic mana, a little non-basic land. 100 unique cards per bulk pack (so still decent number of duplicates BUT the highest # of dups for one card was 12 with an average of 3-4 dups per card... not bad at all imo. 13% of the packs were uncommons.
They're all separated by set, which is nice if you're trying to fill out a collection. I've had some bad experiences in the past with grab boxes having like... 50 duplicates of multiple cards. Not the case with Game Time's boxes.
For 10 bucks, these grab boxes are really well-made. Its obvious going through the cards that they had been sorted and an attempt was made to be fair and equal (no chunks of all blue or white cards.) Very evenly distributed across the colors.
I think these boxes are EXCELLENT for younger players who need a good variety of cards without breaking the bank. Its not like the deal of the century or anything, considering you're getting mostly commons but the variety and even distribution of cards across all colors makes me believe the guys that packed this box were not just using them as a worthless dump of commons. They actually put time and effort into making these boxes worth every dollar. (See photos for even distribution of colors. The stacks at the bottom of the the photos are the unique cards with the larger stacks behind them are the duplicates.)
The employees seemed friendly and...
Read moreI visited during GenCon (while taking some down time) and happened to be doing other stuff in the area. The man working the counter appeared friendly enough and they had quite a lot of available stock across multiple games.
The only reason this doesn't get a better rating is my boyfriend and I bought several singles. I only got around to putting them into my decks today, the cards were untouched and protected for the duration of the trip. Two of the cards I bought were a pair of Field of the Deads. I was charged full price for both, which is fine when all their displayed ones were in fine condition.
The two Fields were put into a single sleeve together and I never saw the second one until today. The one hidden in the back is damaged. Like, not just a little damaged, notably damaged. Note it shared a sleeve with the second one which was still in fine condition and the damage is most notable on the front side, where the card shared a surface with the second Field. It would have been impossible for the damage to occur in the sleeve without the second one being equally damaged.
It's unlikely I'll return here during future GenCons. Sure, it may have been an honest mistake, which is why I chose 3 stars instead of 5. But selling damaged cards as any other condition, not telling the buyer, and hiding it behind another card? That feels pretty...
