I visited the Global Village not really knowing what to expect, but I left feeling completely transformed. As someone from New York, I had a very different picture of Indiana in my mind; One that didn’t include the rich, vibrant, global diversity I found here. The Global Village exhibit was more than a museum, it was a living, breathing celebration of culture, community, and connection. I was blown away by the stories, traditions, and heritage represented from all over the world. Over 100 languages are spoken in this area, and it shows in the food, the shops, the people, and the spirit of the place.
As a Black woman, I felt safe, seen, and welcomed. That’s not always a given, especially in places we don’t expect to feel represented. But here, I felt at home. This one visit shifted how I see Indiana entirely. I never knew such a place existed here and unless someone tells you or you stumble into it, you might never know either. I’m so glad I did. If you’re in the area, or even just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop by. It’s more than worth it. It’s a reminder of what’s possible when cultures are honored, not hidden.

Read moreI love this facility. At this event today, the International Women's Gathering was so amazing with the three speakers, Mrs. Sonal Sheath Zawahri, Mrs. Adoley Azu and and Mrs. Mamta Barmeda. Each spoke about diversity, equity and inclusion. They were very poised, positive and passionate about their subject matter. The facility director, Ms. Mary Clark, has really turned a passion into a dream come true. I watched her start 10 years ago with this amazing venture and it has turned into a Princess and Queen come true. I was deeply humbled by being introduced to the audience. I highly recommend this facility for any social events.
