Absolutely horrendous. Give this restaurant a call before coming here. We drove 150 miles to visit the restaurant because the menu sounded so appealing and some friends recommended the place. They do not have A’La Carte in afternoon during weekends or when they serve buffet. It’s not mentioned bloody anywhere. They are the least accommodating restaurant ever. Half the menu is not available, anything you ask for is not there. Nowhere is it mentioned it’s only Buffet during weekends, and whoever was available to talk would not address any issues. Do not have any expectation based on the menu.
With service like this it doesn’t matter how good or if at all the food was good. Find a different restaurant. The so called floor manager was just laughing for everything we asked about the menu. Waste of bloody time.
My friends and wife tried the food just coz we had driven all the way here and they were hungry. The pongal, samosa, cutlet were salty, total disappointment. We were debating if the food was even fresh - there was no bloody aroma which is an indication of good ingredients in South Indian non vegetarian cooking.
60 % of the buffet was North Indian and not authentic South Indian as advertised. Baingan bharta or chicken or paneer tikka is not authentic South Indian. There was no parotta (Madurai is famous for it btw) but only naan. Don’t bother looking at their menu , their authentic South Indian menu is non existent. Only the Indo Chinese is available even that is generic. Take it from someone who grew up in Madurai - do not fall for the bloody name and the fake menu. There is nothing Madurai about this place. My friends did mention some of the non vegetarian options in the buffet was good but was disappointed with the fish fry being bland. The pictures are supposed to be desserts (the yellow one in the picture is the most watered down custard ever). The sheer kurma was chi kurma. The Briyani offered was Ambur Briyani and not Dindigul thalapakatti. They didn’t even use the proper Jeera Samba rice for Briyani but felt like it was sona masoori rice and it was like mush.
The tea on offer was not the best too. Don’t know how you can run a restaurant and mess making tea.
Very cramped seating layout, considering it’s a buffet there should be more space between tables for people to bloody walk with plates of food.
For it’s a South Indian buffet , there was no curd rice, no jigarthanda (the most iconic Madurai dessert) to order, no payasam - absolutely nothing South Indian about the dessert section. Mysore Pak apparently tasted like Doodh Peda (which are two different sweets) please consider a different restaurant. This is a bloody disgrace in the name of “Madurai Virundhu” which means “Madurai Feast”. For 20$ a plate - they can at least provide better quality plates - the plates were of the cheap quality plastic not even melamine plates. Wonder if anything is authentic about this place.
On a different note - my wife’s friends said the women washroom’s flush...
Read moreI made a stopover for dinner at this restaurant while returning from Cincinnati recently. Time was 8:55 PM and I told the restaurant staff that I am here for dine in (Restaurant closing time was 9:30 PM) . Restaurant owner stepped in an informed me that they can only do takeout for me. I was surprised as there were 3 groups of people having their dinner in the restaurant. I requested restaurant owner that I can finish my dinner quickly with in 15 minutes, then he finally agreed to let me sit in restaurant for dine in. I gave my order, Paneer Tikka masala, Vege. kottu paratha and a tandori roti. After 5 minutes, restaurant staff came and told me that Vege Kottu Paratha is not there. I asked them to give me Gobi Manchurian instead. They served me Gobi Manchurian first which was okay in taste. After another 5 minutes, the restaurant owner came and told me that they can-not make tandoori roti , will I be okay with having Tawa roti. I said, Yes as I had no other option, I needed some bread with my Paneer Tikka masala. After some time, they served me with Paneer Tikka masala and 2 leveled chapati's which were clearly heated from a Frozen packet. I was wondering , why I need to come to a restaurant if I need to eat the frozen stuff. When I asked the Restaurant owner, He informed me that all wheat dough has exhausted and they are not left with any Dough. He also told me that I have been served precooked chapati's prepared earlier, which I knew very well that it was not true, I was offered machine made, perfectly round, frozen reheated chapati's. I ate one Chapati and left another uneaten. With all this disappointment, I left the restaurant at 9:20 PM. People were still sitting on 2 tables , chit-chatting and enjoying their dinner. I made restaurant owner aware that I was leaving the restaurant even before other people, who started their dinner much before me. I am still thinking, restaurant business being part of service industry , why a restaurant owner has to be rude and unpolite to their...
Read moreI should start this review by saying that I contemplated writings this all day because I understand that this business is the livelihoods of multiple people and a bad review can tarnish their reputation. That said, I am now compelled to warn the public so they are not in the position I was. First, my wife and I are both Indian and grew up on Indian food our whole lives. We have been to India multiple time and had authentic indian food that made us wake up every morning looking forward to our next meal (the 10 out of 10 experience). We have been searching for similar food here in the United States ever since.
We were first introduced to India sizzling 2 about two years ago. I remember walking out with a sense of satisfaction that we had found an Indian restaurant that made good food. My wife and I had been there about a dozen times since then.
Maybe due to a change in management or chefs, the quality and the taste of the food at India Sizzling 2 has deteriorated. We went to the restaurant yesterday reluctantly. The food was overall subpar. The mutton curry and house chicken curry was overpowered by garam masala. The fried rice was cold and the chicken tikka masala lacked any flavor, but the worst was yet to come.
I got to the dessert and had gulab jamun that tasted good. My 6 month old son also got a small taste. I went back for seconds and 2 more pieces and scooped in some of the sugar water when I saw a dead cockroach in the pan.
After paying for my meal (because I didnt want him to this was about a free meal), I brought it to the managers attention. He removed the tray immediately and apologized. Needless to say, that is the last time me or my 6 month old son is going to have roach dessert at India Sizzling 2. (If I could, i would post the picture of the roach in...
