Salad Station — Attraction in Irving

The Salad Station is a brand new healthy eating option in the Las Colinas/Valley Ranch area of Irving. They are located in the northwest corner of I-635 and MacArthur near Raising Cane's Chicken. It's a boutique, serve yourself salad bar where the amount you pay is determined by the overall weight of your food selections.

I don't like to mix savory with sweet, so I put two bowls on my tray and proceeded with my salad selections. All of the veggies and fruit are very bright, fresh, and flavorful. They have several protein options including seasoned grilled chicken, shrimp, and carved turkey breast which made my day! For me, there's nothing worse than a salad place without meat - they won't get repeat biz from me.

I always eat salad dry because I love the taste of raw veggies, but they have lots of dressing flavors to choose from along with crunchy toppings. There is also a baked potato bar and a soup bar. I tried the Crawfish Pepperjack soup and it was delicious.

I will say that paying $9.99 per pound can add up quickly, especially if you make dense food choices like I do. But my total today was $16.17 which I think is very reasonable considering the high quality and I was stuffed when I left. You can keep your price down by being very mindful of your choices. Lettuce weighs almost nothing, but fruits, proteins, and pasta salads are hefty, so only take what you can eat in one sitting. Also, water is free, but I am an iced tea ($2.59 of my total) addict and lucky for me theirs is fresh!

I got the soup option. They have several different options. Salad only. Soup & salad, and just soup only.

They had this pepperjack crab Bisque, which was the perfect combination of tasteful and sharpness that gives this soup an unbeatable taste.

The place, however, was representative of a pristine sterile work environment. Like computer chips or something.

You are required to use gloves for getting the salads - but not for the soup tongs.

But the oddest part is that they weighed your food to charge you, which I guess is smart. I mean, you only pay for what you get, and it allows the company to earn money on exactly the amount of product that goes out the door.

I just can't help to wonder (at least on the salad) how do you even out the value to weight ratio? Am I paying for the weight of a Ceasar salad for the same price some one adds pepperoni or other items too.

What if I like a LOT of salad dressing - do I pay more? Do I get cheated out of value if I have the salad dry?

On the soups does the weight of all soups get charged the same even though the materials to make each soup is different? I have to imagine that crawfish is way more expensive to make than chicken noodle soup or even vegetable soup.

Selection & taste? Exceptional.

Value & atmosphere. The jury is still out...

I'm trying to improve my eating habits and one of my top excuses is the prep time and effort it takes to eat healthy. Well, I've found the solution. Plenty of protein options and it seems to be an endless selection of fresh foods. I can get a salad to go with the dressing in a container on the side and it stays fresh in the fridge overnight so I can take it to work the next day.

I've seen great reviews for catering as well. I'm thinking about getting some carry out for holiday gatherings.

The good think is there is no waste. If I buy all the fresh items I put on my salad at a grocery store I'll end up wasting food.

Amazing new restaurant! Great service and the best selection of salad, soup, hot bar and proteins of any restaurant in the area. Quick and convenient. Make it your way and pay by the pound. This will be a regular lunch choice for me.

I talked to the young lady that owns and operates the restaurant and was very impressed with her customer focus.
