TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - My mom and I wanted Chinese one night. So we decided to try Fortune House, for the FIRST TIME. She calls in and places a carry out order over the phone as follows: sweet and sour chicken dinner with fried rice instead of steamed and an order of egg rolls. I head to the restaurant to retrieve our dinner and when I get home we realize we received steamed rice instead of fried. With the restaurant closing in less than half an hour and the considerable distance we drove, we attempted to rectify over the phone. After calling in I was told k could come back another day for ONLY the side of fried rice. Being that our dinner was ruined, that wasn’t a viable solution. I asked if I could come in the next day and pick up a replacement meal and was flat out told NO. After 5 minutes of bantering (including being to call Uber for a refund when it wasn’t an Uber order AND That I need to check my bag) with Brian over the phone, he hung up on me. About 5 minutes later I receive a call from Brian telling me the order would be FULLY refunded. I was already headed to another restaurant, so this felt like a relief. While en route to the other restaurant, I receive a call from another woman, she tells me that she is unable to refund my order and proceeds to verbally attack me. I informed her that I had tossed the meal in the trash. She insisted that since I had the chicken I could not get a refund. She also insisted that the hostesses who pack the food NEVER make mistakes. So I would need to bring in the chicken the next day in order to receive a replacement meal. Not only is it disgusting to retrieve that from the trash, only to be discarded again(hopefully) but it was not even the point of error and just downright unreasonable. The woman over the phone then proceeded to tell me “this is not the first time one of you have done this”, immediately feeling racially profiled, I raised my voice insisting this was my first visit. She continued to argue me and told me if I didn’t bring the chicken in the next day nothing could be done. I retrieved the chicken from the trash can and attached photos of what I ordered (the receipt reads our order correctly), and what I actually got (the food). I have never experienced this from any type of restaurant and will not be returning. Worst...
Read moreThis was the by far the worst choice to have chinese food. My husband & I visited this location on a Friday night. Made reservations, arrived one-time and was immediately seated. We had visited Fortune House (Dallas location) several times & decided to try this location (Irving) as it was a bit closer to home. We were very familiar with the menu so knew what we wanted. We ordered the "famous" soup dumplings (NOT so famous this time), the orange chicken, honey garlic beef & beef chow mein. The server was not very friendly, however we placed our drink order & food order at the same time. We sat for about 5 min before he brought our drinks. After about 10min later he then brought out the orange chicken & the chow mein. We thought the soup dumplings would have came out first (wrong). We started eating thinking the other items (dumplings & honey beef) would be out right after (wrong), so after about another 10min we saw the server & I asked him about the dumplings & honey beef. He said it was on the way. Needless to say the orange chicken was over cooked & dry. The beef chow mein was awful. The beef looked & tasted more like pork 🤮After another 10min and still waiting for our dumpling & honey beef, he finally brings the dumplings. They were just as awful as the chow mein. By this time we had enough. My husband and I both agreed we didn't want another bite. We then told the server to forget the honey beef. He went on to try and explain why it hadn't come out yet (he gave a very poor excuse about family style dishes) We still didn't want the honey beef. I'm guessing he went to tell the cook because he walked away. I then asked another server for the manager. This was by far a very DISAPPOINTING dinning experience. The hostess/ manger (the same young lady that sat us) came over, I then expressed our concerns with the God awful food that we received. While speaking with her, another server brings out our honey beef (the one we canceled some time ago). We had NO problem paying for what we had eaten, however she offered to comp the meal. We got up and excused ourselves from the establishment. We will NEVER come back to this location again. I Emphasize the letter F in Fortune House. Explore ALL your options before choosing this place. 👎 1 out of 10 I highly...
Read moreChinese restaurant wan-a-be, no wonder there are no asian diners in sight.
This is a Shanghainese restaurant with plethora of specialty dishes on the menu that sounded great but clearly miss the boat.
Service: staff moved in sloths pace wondering around aimlessly. Behind the window, Kitchen staff were chit chatting, spits flying while making Xiao Long Bao. Bathroom was clean but overwhelmed by thick cheap perfume..
Food: A good Xiao long Bao is the thinness of its skin and plenty of fillings that provides a lot of juice. While the skin of theirs was thin, it’s anemic, lack of filling and taste, and also tells me the bao makers lack of skill.
Sweet and Sour baby ribs were hard and dry as rocks. They were butchered so badly.
Chili Wontons is all about the sauce. Their sauce was not spicy and is tasteless. The chef definitely miss the translation from its chinese name, “red spicy” wonton.
Kau Fu, again, a special regional dish for the region. The main ingredient gluten, were hard and soaked in pure sugar, it was so, so sugary sweet.
No words to describe the foul gamy taste of the tripe and beef of the famous Szechuan Husband and Wife dish.
Drunken chicken, chicken was not drunk but murdered by pure salt.
Scallion pancakes were neither northern China or Taiwanese style. They tasted like pieces of cardboards glued together, obviously prepared days before and re-fried.
Su Er (vegetarian goose, or Su ya - vegetarian duck) is also a famous regional-dish that contains neither Duck nor Goose, rather, layers of tofu skins. Theirs were under cooked, tough and tasteless.
Edamame, muster green and tofu sheets main dish was again undercooked and so salty, I'm amazed at something so salty, still tasteless.
Smoked fish perhaps has the most authentic taste, tangy and slightly sweet. But the fish was so over fried and dry.
After 12 disappointing dishes, I couldn’t bring myself to try any of the dumplings or american chinese dishes, can’t imagine they could be any better.
Decor: Basic.
Price: Medium. But for the uneatable, substandard food, it’s over priced.
This restaurant is a disgrace, Magic touch of Gordon Ramsey couldn’t possibly help them as they don’t understand the basics of chinese cooking.
