Being a Dominican, and knowing the food— I was excited to try this place. I’ve been living in Texas for 3 yrs now and have been craving Dominican food. I want to start off by saying the service really needs some improvement. It’s not that they’re too busy because they really weren’t. Just need to be better with attentiveness and the food too way too long. The empanadas took about 15 minutes to come out and then we waited about 15-20 min for the hot dog and baked chicken. The food was okay. Not exceptional and because the service took long, I probably won’t be going back. A real Dominican knows that an empanada de queso should not be made with American or sharp cheddar or any yellow cheese. It melts and leaves barely any cheese. The chicken empanada was good! The baked chicken was good. The rice and beans were good but I had higher expectations. My Texan boyfriend got the hotdog which he said was good. We got the tamarindo and sweet tea drink and my bf and I both felt that was the best thing we had ordered. They had ran out of the jugo de chinola. I would’ve tried the flan, which I was very excited about, however I couldn’t bare to wait any longer so we got the check (which took many many requests) and left. Overall, it’s not terrible but has improvement to be made. If you’re looking for a taste closely related to Dominicans, it’s worth a shot but don’t get your hopes up.

Dona Maria Dominican Restaurant is a fantastic spot for authentic Dominican food! While it did take a little longer for the food to arrive, the wait was absolutely worth it. The flavors were incredible, and everything was freshly made. We started with their empanadas—both the beef and seafood were excellent. The boca de yuca, a fried yuca ball filled with melty cheese, was the perfect snack and absolutely addictive. The chimichurri sliders were a unique and delicious twist, with a juicy patty served between crispy tostones instead of buns—so creative and flavorful! For the main course, we had the chivo guisado (goat stew) with yellow bean rice, which was rich, hearty, and satisfying. The flavors really stood out and made it such a comforting dish. To top it off, it was their 6th anniversary celebration, and they had live bachata dancing on the patio, adding to the vibrant and fun atmosphere. Overall, Dona Maria is a wonderful experience for a taste of the Dominican Republic right here in Dallas. Highly recommend for anyone craving bold, authentic flavors and a lively vibe!

I had the pleasure of coming to this restaurant yesterday with five people. I believe I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the restaurant and what she informed me that she just moved the restaurant from Killeen,Texas to Irving, Texas. I am 100% impressed by this restaurant. We came here because we lost our father who was from Dominican Republic and we wanted to honor him with this meal. The staff is so friendly and helpful! We were very impressed with the plating and knowledge of food that this establishment has. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the pernil, the mofongo, the tres golpes,2 soups, the fish, quipes,& tostones. Everything was seasoned perfectly, juicy, had tons of pop flavor from the sauce they add on the side and most importantly you can tell whoever cooked these meals had a VERY good eye and made the food with love.We will be coming back thousands of times in the future. The food is authentic which is rare. Good job Doña Rosa, you gained some new fans from Frisco! To anyone reading this, you will not regret coming here.

I wanted to try this place so me and my husband, who is born and raised in the Dominican Republic, came all the way from Hurst to try it. We were very disappointed and ended up leaving without ordering any food.

The first thing I want to mention is that my husband, being Dominican, says that the menu doesn’t really have many Dominican food staples. He wasn’t impressed with their lack of variety.

The waitress wasn’t rude, but that’s the problem: There’s only ONE waitress! It was too busy for just one person to be doing everything. We called her twice and she kept having to do other things like bring other people their food. Then instead of hurrying to the next table, she stands there talking and laughing at the table.

My last straw was when someone else came in and we had been waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order and she took theirs before ours! We paid for our drinks and left con hambre.

Listen, I love my fellow Latinos but you have to understand that when you come to a new country you have to change based on how that country operates. People here will read these bad reviews and avoid your business. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years you will have to close your restaurant because many people here have the same complaints. And think of the people who DIDN’T leave a review but feel the same...

The food was excellent except the Beans. The sancocho is classic. The goat meat was really good. The chicken empanadas were excellent. The maduros were good, but not fresh. The beans were especially disappointing....tasted american. It could be because they weren't fresh. We arrived at 1:15 and didn't get served until almost 2:30.

My biggest issue was the PRICE. When I looked at the menu, it looked doable (15-20 per plate). However, I didn't know they only include ONE side. Well, you HAVE to have beans with your rice or it isn't Dominican. (Should have salad and tostones included as well)....With 3 people, there went $15 for 3 tiny cups of lousy beans. I understand if you have something imported. Then $5 for juice...even limonade(not imported) and the portion size of the drinks was also too small.

I estimated 60-70 for 3 people, but with the beans, three empanadas, and 1 order of maduros, 3 juices.....We were at $115. There was an automatic 18% gratuity on the AP that was forced on me because "there was only one server and they were busy". How can there be an 18% when we can't even have a conversation with the waiter? The AP was...
