Being a Dominican, and knowing the food— I was excited to try this place. I’ve been living in Texas for 3 yrs now and have been craving Dominican food.
I want to start off by saying the service really needs some improvement. It’s not that they’re too busy because they really weren’t. Just need to be better with attentiveness and the food too way too long. The empanadas took about 15 minutes to come out and then we waited about 15-20 min for the hot dog and baked chicken.
The food was okay. Not exceptional and because the service took long, I probably won’t be going back. A real Dominican knows that an empanada de queso should not be made with American or sharp cheddar or any yellow cheese. It melts and leaves barely any cheese. The chicken empanada was good!
The baked chicken was good. The rice and beans were good but I had higher expectations. My Texan boyfriend got the hotdog which he said was good. We got the tamarindo and sweet tea drink and my bf and I both felt that was the best thing we had ordered. They had ran out of the jugo de chinola.
I would’ve tried the flan, which I was very excited about, however I couldn’t bare to wait any longer so we got the check (which took many many requests) and left.
Overall, it’s not terrible but has improvement to be made. If you’re looking for a taste closely related to Dominicans, it’s worth a shot but don’t get...
Read moreI wanted to try this place so me and my husband, who is born and raised in the Dominican Republic, came all the way from Hurst to try it. We were very disappointed and ended up leaving without ordering any food.
The first thing I want to mention is that my husband, being Dominican, says that the menu doesn’t really have many Dominican food staples. He wasn’t impressed with their lack of variety.
The waitress wasn’t rude, but that’s the problem: There’s only ONE waitress! It was too busy for just one person to be doing everything. We called her twice and she kept having to do other things like bring other people their food. Then instead of hurrying to the next table, she stands there talking and laughing at the table.
My last straw was when someone else came in and we had been waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order and she took theirs before ours! We paid for our drinks and left con hambre.
Listen, I love my fellow Latinos but you have to understand that when you come to a new country you have to change based on how that country operates. People here will read these bad reviews and avoid your business. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years you will have to close your restaurant because many people here have the same complaints. And think of the people who DIDN’T leave a review but feel the same...
Read moreThe food was excellent except the Beans. The sancocho is classic. The goat meat was really good. The chicken empanadas were excellent. The maduros were good, but not fresh. The beans were especially disappointing....tasted american. It could be because they weren't fresh. We arrived at 1:15 and didn't get served until almost 2:30.
My biggest issue was the PRICE. When I looked at the menu, it looked doable (15-20 per plate). However, I didn't know they only include ONE side. Well, you HAVE to have beans with your rice or it isn't Dominican. (Should have salad and tostones included as well)....With 3 people, there went $15 for 3 tiny cups of lousy beans. I understand if you have something imported. Then $5 for juice...even limonade(not imported) and the portion size of the drinks was also too small.
I estimated 60-70 for 3 people, but with the beans, three empanadas, and 1 order of maduros, 3 juices.....We were at $115. There was an automatic 18% gratuity on the AP that was forced on me because "there was only one server and they were busy". How can there be an 18% when we can't even have a conversation with the waiter? The AP was...
