Lana’s is always a great place to get a really good haircut at an affordable price. However, it hasn’t been my main go to for a couple of reasons. Number one being that it’s first come first serve. If you’re not there at opening and you want Lana to do your hair? You’re going to be waiting a long time. I came in on a weekday in the afternoon and I asked for Lana. She told me that there was only two people ahead of me. I asked her how long the wait time was and she told me an hour which was a reasonable time. I’m not sure what their services were but I was willing to wait because she does great hair. Unfortunately, that lead me to sit there for a near 4 hours. I got there at 1:30ish and I wasn’t taken to get my hair washed until 4:45. Afterwards I waited another 30 minutes for Lana to come do my hair. I’m not exactly sure what was happening in the time I was waiting which leads me to my second reasoning. Communication. If it was communicated to me that it was going to take much longer than I initially intended it to, I would have saved time and left. By the time 2 hours had passed I was already in too deep and I just wanted my haircut by anyone. 3 hours gone and still just sat there. As a person in customer service, why would you let someone sit there for hours on end without letting them know anything? The woman who washed my hair made a comment on how long I was waiting there to make light of the situation but it didn’t help and I was very frustrated. I have a lot of patience and this was my only day off before a big trip. I winded up paying my $30+tip because I tip no matter what and left at 6:10pm. This was my worst experience there ever and I have had a few before when I was younger. I feel as though there was some sort of favoritism towards a certain demographic of people and it shows. With that being said I also feel I shouldn’t have to walk around with an “I’m Asian too!” sign to get some attention and customer service. The place is always busy no matter what. It’s been like that for years. Thankfully they have a larger salon now. In conclusion, the haircuts are great, the price is unbeatable, but you’ll just have to be the judge for yourself. For me this experience really made an impact on me wanting...
Read moreI have extremely curly hair and I usually go to a salon to have it trimmed with scissors. So I decided to call Lana's Unisex Hair Salon. When I called I explained to the person who answered the phone what I was looking for and she said it would be no problem. I asked if I needed to make an appointment and she said I didn't and I can come in whenever I want. I told her I would be there shortly.
Well that's when I found out what this place was truly about. Once I got there I was locking up my bike and one of the hair stylist came to the door and locked me out. When I came to the door to open it, indeed that is what she did and shooed me away. I had to put my hand up to the my face as though I was making a phone call to explain that I just called.
That is when she came to the door and unlocked it and said we don't do your hair it's too curly. Go to the barber shop down the street. Now I don't have a problem with someone not wanting to do my hair but I do have a problem with the unwelcome attitude this establishment had towards me.
This place seems to be ran by Korean women and I feel I was treated this way because I am African American male. I guess since I didn't sound black over the phone there wasn't a problem with trimming curly hair. Once they seen who I was, I was unwelcomed.
This message is for any black woman who buys hair from them. Bijou Beauty & Hair Supply on MLK Blvd is also run by Korean's but they are more respectful to their customers. I would recommend not spending you money with Lana's Unisex Hair Salon. I can only imagine what they think of you when you...
Read moreI love that their services are so affordable. They are really great at what they do BUT get ready to wait. There is definitely a favoritism here. If you look and talk in their language then you’ll be waiting like me. 2 hours. I was sitting waiting to get my hair washed for 30 mins and people who came after me were taken care of. I justed walked away. There is no communication or no one check the list. You basically sign in and just wait to see if they will call you. Now if a Filipino walk through the door, he goes either to Lana or another of the hair dresser to see how many is in front of them. Now tell me how can they know if they don’t look at the list! This place is so...
