Came here for my Vietnamese fix, left being full & happy. Reading past several comments, not sure why everyone is so finicky & picky. I got the Pho Xe Lua, a great upgrade if you want your bucks worth, instead of Pho Tai. My sister got Canh Chua Ca, served with hot white rice. Her dish is savory tangy & sweet vegetable soup dish with Salmon. My pho was a nice clean yet light broth, yet perfectly seasoned. It had the northern style taste, served with a side of condiments such as bean sprouts, cilantro, culantro, and a piece of lemon. You want to add all of that in as soon as possible so it cooks in the hot broth. I added siracha & hoisin, I also added their homemade spicy fish sauce that had spicy peppers in it. I only took the peppers cause I didn’t need anymore flavor but the peppers were a kicker addition to my bowl. My sister also added some to her Canh Chua. We also ordered durian smoothie, it is not made with fresh durian so there is no harsh smell, it’s smooth & delicious. They also renovated their restaurant a bit to include some Asian goods for sale, please check it out &...
Read moreI've heard that this neck of the woods isn't such a great area, but if you're willing to chance it, Thanh Huong has got some pretty good food. And the prices are cheaper than other Vietnamese places in Jersey City.
Our party of four came in on a Tuesday at around 8 and the place was empty, except for a large table in the middle (who seemed like they were friends/family of the owner).
I ordered what I usually order at Viet places - cold vermicelli with spring rolls and some type of meat. This time, it was grilled chicken. Sometimes, places grill the chicken for too long and it becomes overcooked. But not here! The dish was as good as I expected to be. I also split a banh mi with my boyfriend since we both wanted to try it. Plus, it was only $4! I'm glad we did that because I really enjoyed the banh mi as well.
The only thing is - I feel like the portions are smaller here, which might explain why it's cheaper. At any other Viet restaurant, there's no way I could have finished my entire bowl AND half a sammy. I don't mind though - Thanh Huong is an example of quality...
Read moreWhat a local gem! Love this mom and pop place. Authentic no frills. Extremely fresh ingredients and very good prices, almost criminally low prices compared to other places. The shrimp spring roll is so refreshing and and the rice wrapper wrap has the most chewiness and texture I’ve ever had. The fried egg rolls are a must get. It’s surprisingly light and not greasy at all but the filling is very well seasoned and the wrap itself so crunchy and delicious. We of course had to get the pho. The broth is absolutely phenomenal. It is truly a delicacy and made with all the traditional herbs and spices. The beef round eye slices are so juicy and tender. The three color dessert is so yummy. The coconut milk with the mung bean and jellies are so refreshing and satisfying. Highly recommend this...
