I did some business at Morrison Jewelers...I'm mixed on them. First off, the quality is there. They will do custom work, and they do a good job. In terms of talent, these guys are among the best. You can see the custom ring on the screen as they design it. That is very nice. I could see the expertise they had.
The cons - EXPENSIVE. I can say that without a doubt because I got quotes from other jewelers for the exact same work with the exact same diamond I had (I only needed a ring). Morrison was one of the most expensive of all that I went to.
And, perhaps worse, they are very slow. I sat down and designed a beautiful custom ring and was happy with it walking out of the store - albeit grumbling about the cost. My plans for proposing changed and I ended up needing to verify the delivery time for the ring. I called at least five times (I was not in the Kalamazoo area at the time) and got no calls back and heard crickets otherwise. Same story with emails. It got to the point where the frustration was extreme and I finally threatened to pull out of the deal on my last call...and that magically made the jeweler appear on the line...which tells me they were not serious about talking to me in the first place. I was "slamming my hand on the table mad" at that point and pulled out altogether. The whole thing put me in a real bind to get the ring done on time.
Look, if you want a nice ring, you're going to spend many thousands. You just are. And you're going to stress and fret about the whole process. The markups are extreme across the industry (on diamonds as well as rings), so you better learn all about diamonds and how to judge their quality (past the 4 C's) so you at least get a good diamond for your money. Further, if you are going to part ways with that kind of cash, the jeweler should at least be willing to talk to you, multiple times even. Morrison failed 100% in that regard.
So, my final conclusion. Morrison is very good quality (probably the best I saw), but very expensive. And if you are in any type of hurry or confined to a schedule in any way,...
Read moreI couldn’t have been more thrilled with my experience - and so was my fiancé. After my custom ring was over 1 size too large, Mike worked with the manufacturer to get me a fantastic deal on re-casting. It took 6 weeks to get the new one in- it was a long wait (it was over the Christmas / New Years holiday) but he called me multiple times to let me know the status. When I went to pick it up, it was PERFECT. Such remarkable craftsmanship- he let me look at it under the huge microscope, told me the whole story of how my fiancé made it, what to be careful of and how to properly maintain it, and I even got a book about the whole production process of my ring! AND it was getting late / dark so he walked me to my car! They went Above and beyond in every possible way- Making it the most perfect beginning to a life with my...
Read moreI had an amazing experience with Morrison Jewelers. I needed a delicate engraving on a very small, sentimental piece of jewelry for my daughter, and I was on a tight timeline. Diane Morrison immediately put me at ease—she listened to my story, understood the importance, and assured me it would be done with care. From the moment I met her, it felt like I was working with a friend.
They finished ahead of schedule, and the quality of the work far exceeded my expectations. The engraving was flawless, and the piece looked even better than I imagined.
The service, craftsmanship, and genuine care were outstanding. Thank you,...
