So we stopped in for lunch today, its my first time going, however I've wanted to go for a while and finally made it around to going. Unfortunately I don’t think we will be returning. Let me start with the good, which was the food, my fiancé and I split the italian sandwich, which tasted great, the fries were standard but not bad at all and our server was generally great. Now comes my issues, first was their was a bit of a wait for our food which I wouldn’t normally complain about as I understand that from my own restaurant job experience, but compounded with my other complaint its worth mentioning, also it wasnt very busy so id expect a decent wait on a busy night, beyond that with the wait my fiancé got a soda and i cant say i looked very hard but i also didn’t notice anywhere on the menu stated that sodas did not include refills, and our server definitely didn’t mention it, we had a nice relaxing lunch until i got the bill and saw i was charged nearly 10$ for her soda (3$+tax per refill 3 refills over ~1hr), speaking from my own experience as a kitchen manager in a bar, soda is EXTREMELY cheap and charging for refills especially when it is not explicitly or obviously stated leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. (Where i worked as long as someone didn't get more than 16 refills we still profited on soda alone) the cost for our one sandwich, one 7$ beer, and diet coke was...
Read moreThis place definitely deserves five stars, and it’s mainly because of how they handled things when the night didn’t go perfectly.
They were absolutely slammed when we came in — it was Parents Weekend, plus the Western Michigan game, so the place was packed. The kitchen was backed up, everything came out late, and out of the three pizzas we ordered, one of them arrived room temp instead of hot. Normally that would’ve been pretty frustrating, but the way the staff handled it completely changed the experience.
Our server, Jack, was outstanding. Even under pressure he stayed friendly, attentive, and on top of things. Honestly one of the best servers I’ve had in a long time. The manager also came by to apologize personally, explained that this isn’t their usual standard, and offered to make it right. They comped one pizza completely and even gave us a discount on the rest of the bill. That kind of accountability goes a long way.
The food itself was really good — great flavors, high-quality ingredients — and the vibe in the restaurant is super lively. Considering how busy it was, I can totally see how the delays happened, and I appreciate that the team owned up to it and made sure we left happy.
At the end of the day, mistakes happen, but the way they handled it showed a lot of professionalism and care for their customers. That’s why it’s still a full five...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The Hub Tavern and Grill in Kalamazoo. After a day of exploring, we were in search of a nearby place to grab a bite, and The Hub seemed like the perfect choice.
First and foremost, the ambiance of the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. The cozy and inviting atmosphere made for a delightful dining experience.
When it came to the food, most of the dishes we ordered were great. However, I must mention that the margarita pizza was a bit bland for my taste. It lacked the bold flavors I was expecting.
On a positive note, the smash burger we ordered was a standout. It had a fantastic flavor, and to top it off, it was on special, making it an even better deal.
Unfortunately, our server was not as attentive as we had hoped. The food took quite a while to arrive, and our server mentioned that there were no food runners available. However, I suspect that he may have simply forgotten to ring in our order.
Overall, The Hub Tavern and Grill offers a beautiful ambiance and delicious food, with the exception of the margarita pizza. While the service was a bit lacking, the standout smash burger made up for it. I would recommend giving this place a try, but perhaps be prepared for a potential...
