I've been a member at Northwood Church for almost three years now, and it's been one of the most enriching, inspiring, challenging, and engaging times in my life. The body of believers at Northwood truly lives out the Great Commission given to us by Jesus Christ and they support one another with all the fruits of the Holy Spirit, too.
Northwood serves schools in low-income neighborhoods, refugees who just arrived in America, newly planted churches in the US and Mexico, as well as several communities in northern Vietnam. One third of all church funding is used to redeem lives and livelihoods in the life-changing name of Jesus!
The staff at Northwood is all about equipping and releasing the members of the church to use their God-given talents to claim new frontiers for God's Kingdom. The members who live out their faith in the world of work have started Bible studies all over the Metroplex, baptized many of their lost friends and family, and have been salt and light to their neighbors. Through multi-faith outreach and dialog, Northwood members and staff have had the opportunity to proclaim Christ's message of grace and redemption to those who rarely hear it in a Christ-like manner.
The most encouraging and exciting thing about Northwood, to me at least, is that the church is not doing everything the same as it was five, or even three years ago. And it more than likely will change its methods of community engagement within the next five years, too. The message of God's plan for mankind is everlasting, but the most cursory glance at His Scripture will show how He works out His redemptive plan differently in generation after generation. How can we expect churches to continually expand God's Kingdom without a continual renewal of our spirits and minds within the...
Read moreMy wife and I attended Northwoods Saturday evening services. We found them to be shallow in substance. The preaching was mostly just talk about Vietnam and how Pastor Roberts wanted a motorcycle. Sermons were out of focus, Pastor could not stay on topic, if was as though he didn't study and just wigned it. Jordan, was a youth Pastor who filled in on occasion, his lessons were in sync, however they were more self help, with a splash of doctrine. Northwood is either afraid to teach sound doctrine and theology or they don't know it. My attending this Church lead me to believe that they are a seeker friendly body that is afraid of offending people with theTruth of the Gospel, that man is sinful , needs forgiveness , that works will not get you into Heaven and yes, there is a real Hell that people choose to send themselves there. I would not recommend this Church to anybody, they are totally devoid of any Christian Doctrine, or just flat out choose to ignore it. If you want a self help type of Church then this is it. If you yearn to learn the Bible along with it's doctrines and theology of God, this is...
Read moreMy family has been going to Northwood for about eight years. The church is very welcoming to the community and easy to navigate once inside because of the many volunteers and helpful signs leading you to your destination. The children's ministry is incredible. The volunteers and leadership work hand in hand to create a warm and friendly atmosphere for children and also to give children a clear view of God and His desire for a relationship with all people. The youth department is led by qualified and passionate adults who long for every teenager to feel God's love. If you enjoy a lively worship service and a sound doctrinal sermon, then Northwood is definitely the place for you. As a teacher and father, Northwood challenges me to become a better person by living out the teachings from God through His Son Jesus Christ. The love for all people, no matter what religion, ethnicity, social standing, or any other man-made factor, is a key component to Northwood's mission. Just to clarify: Northwood does not have a Saturday service but even if it did it would be...
