Farmers Feed and Seed — Attraction in Kernersville

I will not be returning to Farmer's feed and seed. We went there to purchase a 20 week old hen. We were greeted by the owner, who seemeed nice enough at first. Once we saw the living conditions of the hens we changed our minds immediately. They had no sunlight, were walking on rusty cast iron grates, and the entire underside filled with piles of feces. PILES! There were about 30, (he said he starte with 100) stuffed in the small cage. When we decided that we would decline purchasing a bird the owner became irate and insulting telling us that we were raising OUR birds wrong because we didn't do the inhumane practice of debeaking our birds like "the big shots." If he knew anyhing about yard birds, he would know the importance of the birds beak and it's relation to it's health. His claim was that it kept them from slinging food and kept them from pecking each other. Any knowledgeable birdkeeper would know that stress and poor diet are the main cause for this behavior.

Whether for meat or eggs, I've always believed in respect for the creatures that provide for us. If you have any self respect or respect for these wonderful creatures, then avoid giving them ANY...

I called earlier in the day and spoke to what sounded like an older gentleman and he was very friendly and helpful. I was looking for perlite, which he found and verified they had in stock. When I arrived later in the day, the place was almost empty. I walked to the register for assistance and told the lady what I was looking for. She immediately tells me they don't have any. I let her know that I called earlier and verified that it was in stock. She seemed almost reluctant to sell me the perlite. She was so short and rude that my 9 year old son made a comment as soon as we got outside. She carried the same demeanor with the one other customer behind me in line. Maybe the place wouldnt be nearly as empty if the lady at the register didn't act like ut was such a chore to be there or do her job 💁 Other than that, found what I came for at...

The employees were friendly and knowledgable. I found what I needed, but I don’t think I’d come back again. I got a metal trashcan with a lid and come to find out they were sold and priced separately. That was a little strange to me instead of just upping the price of the trashcan and including the lid with it like most places would do - even the employee helping me admitted it was strange. I also bought a feed scoop, it was the last one, and it had black residue all over it. I didn’t ask for a discount, nor did I really care as it was for chicken feed anyway and could be cleaned, but the employee noticed it and recognized that it was weird/gross, but didn’t offer a discount or anything.
