Dunham's Sports — Attraction in Kingsport

Kingsport location is anti 2nd amendment in its policies. A family member visited the Dunham's Sports on 10-08-2022 to purchase 2 youth model lever action rifles for his grandchildren as christmas presents, as they had just went on sale.

When he asked the store employee for 2 of the rifles, the employee refused to sell them to him unless he explained why he wanted 2 of them. There is NO law against a citizen buying 2 firearms at the same time. When told that the youth model rifles were to be Christmas presents for two grandchildren, the Dunham's employee stated that he could NOT sell the rifles unless the parents of both children to be recipients came to the store to all be background checked !! To to be perfectly clear, this store wanted to run FIVE separate background checks at $10 each to make one purchase of rifles in their store. To sum up, if you make a firearm purchase at Dunham's Sports in Kingsport , TN you have to explain WHY you are making the purchase, and you also have to not only pay for a state background check but also for a background check on anyone who may come within arms reach of your new rifles after you purchase them.

This "store policy" is outrageous and is completely antithetical to the very spirit of the 2nd Amendment.

The same rifles were purchased at a competitor on the same day for less money, with no invasive questioning, and without having the entire family lineage line up for background checks and interrogations.

Absolutely the worst experience my wife and I ever had in a retail store. The gun department manager is 100% useless. We were left standing at the counter for 15 minutes without anyone behind the counter. After I hunted a person down to help us, she spent another 10 minutes ignoring us and talking with other employees. When she finally came behind the counter, she was unhelpful. I asked about price matching because the hand gun was $100+ over all other stores I visited. She stated it had to be within 5 miles of her store, then indicated Academy would count, but she made it obvious that she didn't want to be bothered nor helpful. My wife and I looked on Academy website, and sure enough, it was $100 cheaper. At checkout, we spoke with a store manager, who seemed to not know what to do or he was scared of her. He didn't offer a solution, just an apology. After being blown off, we refused to spend $1,000 in this store. We then went and purchased the same firearm at Firearms 4 U for $140 less. Never again will I step foot in this store. Save yourself the time and money, support Firearms 4 U, they care and treat customers like their income comes from your purchases. Went to Dunham's in Kingsport Tennessee last night to buy a gun and was told I would have to wait until the next day to pick it up . Went back the next day and stood in line again for another 30/40 minutes and was asked if someone called me and told me my gun was ready for pickup?? NO one told me last night I would be contacted by phone and besides that I wasn't home all day to get a call. Told the department manager if gun was not ready I wanted my money back , I've never had too wait that long on a background check! The department manager came back with a young lady and said she would take care of me ?? On our way to the checkout I asked her does this mean I get the gun or not,she said I'm taking you to get your money back,no sorry or nothing from the department manager!! At the check out another department manager had to approve the return and I went off on him and again NO sorry!!!! After getting my money back for the gun,o yell didn't get the $10 I paid for background check,I talked to the store manager and finally got a sorry out of him but that's about all! Needless to say I will NEVER shop there again.
