This is the memorial to honor 6316 fallen heroes from 35 counties of East Tennessee who laid their lives since World War I. This wonderful memorial is in the World’s Fair Park in Knoxville.
There are 32 granite pylons on which the names of the fallen heroes are inscribed. On each pylon there are 220 names inscribed. A granite bench is placed opposite each pylon for seated observation and contemplation.
There are granite walkways within the memorial. There is an American flag on the circular plaza. There is an information plaque which explains the history of the memorial. Check the back of the pylon to see the names of the recipients of the Medal of Honor.
This is near the historic L & N Rail Road Station. This is the station from where thousands of young men boarded the trains to war and never returned.
