Playground was recently torn down and redesigned/rebuilt, and it is fantastic!! So much fun for kids of all ages. The largest slide is not accessible for kids under 3 or so as there are varying difficulties of obstacles you have to climb to get to the top. My 2.5 year old (who is pretty adventurous for his age) was not able to get past the third level due to a rope net with big holes (much larger than his little feet). But there were plenty of other places for him to play like 2 other smaller slides and a merry go round (love the design--it is built flush into the ground; so much safer than the ones we had 20 years ago). Wish the fence went around the whole playground to keep smaller kids from wandering off. Playground was very crowded (on a festival day) and I felt I had to keep eyes on my son at all times as there is a path leading down to a busy road (in front of the...
Read moreI'm disappointed with the remodel of how the park is created now. I went yesterday with my toddler nephew to see if they had several activities to play on for small children under 5. Nope! The park is way smaller which is a big diservice with all the parking and the room that it used to have there. All I saw was overcrowding and big kids running around with not a whole lot to do. I remember the old Fort Kid and how much you could climb, run around, and get into several different activities such as the old tire swing. They need to change the name because what I saw was not a fort anything. I wouldn't even bring larger kids to this park either there's not a whole to even do there. It's really sad really I expected more. Also they have a port a potty outside if you gotta go and all I saw was one of them. We ended up going...
Read moreWe always stopped at this playground when we drove through Knoxville. It used to be this super cool wooden fort (hence the name fort kid) inspiring so much imaginative play. Now.... It's just this sad modern playground. I can't even explain our disappointment when we drove up and saw the burning metal glowing in the sunlight and the emptiness all around. I get that the original playground probably needed some work as wood (being a natural substance) can rot and get splinters. But, it's so telling that instead of just maintaining the old one, they ripped it down and built a new one. Not much to be done now, but a warning to those expecting the old playground by the pictures...
