Smile Dental San Diego — Attraction in La Mesa

This dentist office deserves ZERO stars. The front desk staff is completely unprofessional and inefficient.

I scheduled an appointment for my 7-year-old daughter a week in advance, providing all necessary insurance details and full social security numbers. I arrived early for her 1 PM appointment, only to be told by the receptionist that they had no record of our appointment and that it was likely at another office. When I showed her the confirmation text with the address, she admitted that she was the one that had canceled the appointment the prior morning due to insurance verification issues.

After taking time off work and picking up my daughter early from school, I offered to pay cash to simply get her seen. The receptionist refused, stating that because I had active insurance, I couldn't pay out of pocket. Confused and frustrated, I asked to speak with the dentist. After waiting 25 minutes, the dentist asked her to simply verify the insurance, which she did—reluctantly and with attitude. The receptionist then claimed everything was fine to proceed, but insisted the visit had to be coded as an emergency.

At that point, I asked for my insurance card and ID back, as I felt I was being subjected to insurance fraud. This was not an emergency appointment, just a routine checkup for my daughter.

After being treated poorly and unethically, I left. This office is untrustworthy and completely unprofessional—avoid it...

This place deserves more than 5 stars. From the moment you walk in and you meet Lydia, the receptionist, she speaks to you with kindness and makes you feel comfortable. I am personally terrified of going to the dentist but promised myself to overcome this fear. At Smile Dental SD they make it easy for you to feel at ease with any procedure. I’ve had fillings, deep cleaning , crowns … and every time Doctor Gamboa makes sure to ask me how I am doing .Doctor and assistants are very professional and considerate of any questions I might have. I really like how Erica, the manager, explains with extreme detail what the plan is of the work done that day. How payment works and What insurance covers. She’s really great. I love this place. This place looked clean but us 3rd world ! This is America not India. We put customers first. They have no bathrooms for clients and we’re rude defensive and proud of it! I read other yelp reviews and am happy we left before we even got our first aptment. We are seniors my husband had a stroke and the lack of bathroom is inhuman!

The receptionist was proud of the face she had sights and said they told me on phone. I never got that memo and never would go to a place with that disregard for the comfort and hospitality to their patients!

Not enough money to rent a building with a bathroom!! Can’t imagine what they would cut out doing your teeth.
