I am a member at the UFC Gym in La Mirada, California. On 2/6/23 I went into the La Mirada Gym at about 4:00 pm to downgrade my membership because I no longer need the daycare option for my son. The worker at the front desk said I needed to wait for her manager. The manager James Thomas ignored me and helped another customer who came in after me. He asked me to wait a moment. I went to sit down to continue to wait and he yelled at me "Don't sit down! Don't sit down!" (Cameras should be able to show this at 4:00pm-4:10pm) I was startled by this but shrugged it off. He soon helped me and continued to ask me repeatedly if I was sure if I wanted to do this. I said yes. He finally went through with the process and said he "did me a favor" and was not going to charge me any fees. When I went home however, I saw that he put in the new contract that I was to pay $49 on 4/7/23. I called him back immediately and asked him to clarify why I would be charged in two months. He said it was an "annual fee." I tried to explain to him that I started the gym in June of 2022 and that if I were paying an annual fee it should be in June, not April. He would not let me talk at all and kept trying to explain what an "annual fee" is. I explained that I understand what an annual fee was but that I should not be charged two annual fees in less than a year's time. The phone conversation we had became increasingly uncomfortable as he would not let me speak and then kept telling me I was interrupting him (this was quite the opposite). His tone was very aggressive and he was yelling at me throughout the call. Throughout the conversation he was belittling and said I "have a bad attitude." I asked to speak to a different manager. He asked me to hold and then hung up on me.
I called back and asked to speak to the manager again and I was immediately put on hold which is strange. If we got disconnected he did not make any attempts to call me back. No managers would answer my calls so I had to go back in person.
The second time I was helped by Chris Sandoval. He was very apologetic about the situation and offered to help me immediately. He was going to remove the new annual fee. At this point I told him I felt very comfortable going to a gym where the general manager yelled at me multiple times and called me names. He said he completely understood and said I would have access to the gym until April 2023.
All of this because I wanted a downgrade. The general manager is shady and will try to charge you fees. Please read your contract! I have just contacted corporate and asked them to review their cameras. STAY AWAY...
Read moreI think this has been the best gym experience i have ever had, i have had many gym memberships in the past but this one is unique. First of all it's spacious and the equipment is state of the art and well maintained, with one request if management would assign someone to do restroom checks every 2 hours it would be greatly appreciated, the young lady that usually cleans them does an amazing job, but she is not working all day and i have noticed in the daytime hours they need to be maintained. That being said the staff are excellent, that place is busy and the staff are about their bussiness as they should be, but there is one gentleman that stands out to me his name is Phillip he changes the whole atmosphere. As i said earlier it can be busy but he brings something very special to this experience, he has the perfect balance between professionalism and knowing how to be personable, which is not always easy i don't know him well, but he always makes that extra effort to make me feel welcomed, and is so aware of what is going on in that gym. If i have ever had an issue that needed to be dealt with regarding gym membership dues, joining a challenge, or just updating my UFC phone application, he is the man that notices i need assistance before I even ask he is so perceptive, he always makes me feel like he has my best interest in mind and i feel completely confident in his direction. He goes out of his way to say hello or offer assistance and is always looking for an opportunity to deal with problems that arise you just don't get that anywhere so keep up the...
Read moreFirst, understand I'm coming from a point of view of a middle aged, much larger, not fitness-inclined, woman. I've been wanting to join a gym and make improvements, but I was terrified of cartoonishly monstrous, triangle-chested, wasp-waisted, jocks in loose tank tops, laughing at everyone who couldn't keep up.
What did I find here? Some guys who look to be of reasonably strong builds and defined bodies, who shook my hand, gave me their name with a smile, and said "welcome". A couple of tiny women helped me find the sinks with a smile. I have seen no judgement from anyone, but quite the opposite- I feel like I am welcomed and belong.
The machines, and there's a lot of them, are all in excellent condition, the punching bags all look new, and tv's everywhere. there's a room for martial arts (kids classes too!), one for classes, and a mat room for boxing and muay thai. The bathroom is pristine and well-kept. They even have a smoothie bar!
The only bad thing? They have a couch that has seen better days. That's it.
It's pricey, but well worth every penny, as every instructor I've met so far has helped me get over my social anxiety about going to the gym. This is honestly a great place.
Did I mention that they have watch parties on Saturday when there's UFC...
