This is long, but useful. This is a spa first and resort second. Upon arriving we learned there is no valet service. You can park and unload bags with the attendant who will bring to one of the 47 rooms in the place. The lobby is designed as a shop and is crowded with people in robes and overpriced soaps and oils which make it challenging for the staff to tend to people as some are checking in/out and others are getting services. Just need to redesign the entire lobby for better flow. Also the shop has signs that read “smile you’re on camera” all around, and that is quite sad that a place of this elevation needs such gimmicky warnings. Once you’ve received your room key and can park you need to take your vehicle to the open lot around the corner, and it can be far to park depending on how packed the lot is. Leave the elderly and handicapped at the lobby, they should not be making the trek to the parking lot. Great news is that the entire spa has only one point of entry, the front, so in inclement weather, and just all the time really, you have to walk quite far to get inside. This is exacerbated if you have a room in the new wing, which we did, and you have quite further to walk than others. From our room to the car in the parking lot was .72 miles. That’s absurd. The room though, absolutely stunning. Love how spacious it is, the outdoor patio/hot tub was superb, the linens and comfy bed were a win, and the bathroom really is top notch. Weird that they have a full wet bar, but no mini bar, that’s a missed opportunity for some extra sales on their end. Also, the couches need some pillows. They have no arm rests, and it just makes it challenging to get cozy on the sofas in general. The reflection room was a nice touch, barring those who do talk loudly or don’t turn their devices off. Love the wildlife come right to the windows basically all day long. It’s really just a big open room with some cozy chairs and lemon water. Nothing special outside of that. Meditation class was weird, and we needed to sign up for it FYI, it’s basically some breathing exercises that were well received until another members phone kept going off and they tried to pretend it wasn’t theirs. Otherwise the class all basically fell asleep until someone had begun to cough profusely. You also need to sign up for other classes! Don’t forget because even if there are only two people in the class they won’t let you join. We only ate at the spa one night, and there is only one restaurant serving the entire place. It was good food, not deserving of the prices they’ve marked of course. And be sure to not get drinks at the pool bar and walk into the restaurant with! Not allowed! If you order from the pool bar, it’s the same food that comes out. Breakfast is also available at the same restaurant and is not complimentary. In fact, nothing is at the resort except the granola and dried fruit in the spa area. There are apparently other restaurants on the Wilderness property itself, according to the front door attendants, but those aren’t advertised on the Sundara website or any materials at the spa. You can apparently catch a ride in their shuttle to go though. We weren’t informed any other way and I assume that the people eating there are not eating dinner in their robes and bathing suits. The deep tissue massage was well worth the time and money. It was a wonderful experience and maybe one of the better massages I’ve had at resorts around the country. Overall, this resort is a nice getaway for a couple or a small group, maybe a two day max, but it lacks in keeping their clients busy outside of being in the water. There isn’t anything to do at the spa other than the random classes or spa activities. We just found ourselves leaving too often to do other things in the tourist trap of a town it is in. It is a nice place, but it is falling short compared to peers in the state and especially across the country. If they are to tout a world class recognition, then they need to live up to it. We plan to not return unless we are going for a group gathering...
Read moreWhen my fiancé and I arrived it was very nice and peaceful. The driver acted as a doorman and open the door and guided us to where we should check in. The guest services person was nice and knowledgeable but was talking extremely fast. I had to have to repeat a few things because I did not understand her. The Villa we stayed at was extremely nice. I was impressed with the kitchen Jacuzzi tub showers bed and View. I was not impressed with the fact that it started raining in the kitchen. We informed management and they told us we could stay in one of their premier rules or two level rooms. But if we stayed in the two level room. We would have to leave the game for a second light of this day. We chose to stay in the premier room because we did not want to move a second time. I was extremely disappointed with the Premier rule because I wanted the amenities The Villa. The Premier rule was a nice hotel room with his and her sinks fireplace and walk in shower. The next day a young woman named Tiffany who was extremely new gave us the best tour of the facility. Kudos to her. The restaurant was decent could have been better if the staff would not have taken so long to service us. We took part in the relaxation meditation and it was OK. I fell asleep LOL. That night we took theComplementary drive an escort to field steak House. After which we return to our room. But before I continue the driver was excellent kudos to him. I believe his name was Ramon From Spain. We return to our room and before we could finish changing out of our dinner clothes we received a knock at the door from Manageman stating that they got a complaint about furniture being moved around. I kindly told her she had the wrong rule because we had just gotten there. My fiancé and I continue to celebrate our engagement by talking and watching some television. I feel as if we were not extremely loud. We had no music playing and we were enjoying a bottle of wine. We received a rude knock at the door by the Over;night clerk and PUBLIC SAFETY officer. The public safety officer proceeded to warn us that this was our final warning before being removed from the premises. I politely asked him why when we were not making a lot of noise and the first complaint was false. We have a extremely polite conversation between the three of us. I felt as if they were doing They are best to accommodate us and everybody as I try to explain to them that the first complaint was false and was not our room making a noise. They were extremely polite and understanding. A woman walked by staring at me extremely rudely and then called me a “jerk”. She called me a jerk three ties and try to start an argument in the hall way. I refuse to engage in that type of negativity because I was in a extremely good mood. I later spoke with the night service clerk and express my concerns. She was extremely apologetic and told me that she would send security to the woman’s who called me a jerk and gave her a final warning like she did us. I told her that so far this was the first and horrible experience staying at this spa. She relayed the information to the morning manager who then proceeded to tell me that the staff made a mistake the night before and it was not our room who was disturbing other guest. He tried to be accommodating by offering free services and free chocolate covered strawberries. After requesting that one of our nights be copped due to our bad experience he agreed to half-day for one of our two days. Over off I felt that we were singled out because we were the only couple African-American descent staying at the spa. But the staff did their best to make up for the mistake. And because they did their best to be accommodating I did not give them one star. But in the future the staff need to do a better job of investigating complaints before assuming that the only African-American couple at the spa were the ones causing the ruckus. We felt extremely unhappy but we were trying to make the best of it because this was our engagement. Some day, not soon, we will give you...

Overall, it would have been a 5 star experience if not for the very bad food quality (especially accounting for high price).
First time at Sundara Inn & Spa. We stayed over night for one night. We didn't get any paid treatment but did a handful of their free activities. Sundara has several pools with good amount of seating around them. There are water stations and some light snacks provided as well. There's areas that are outside for those that want to be out in the warmth or sunbathing. But there are also areas that have indoors pools and other dry indoor areas that are ACed. Strict no phone policy. And there is no kids, at all, at this venue.
Drinks are pricey but I expected higher price just because of the setting. Overall, we were satisfied with our drinks (we probably had 3-4 drinks each across our two day stay). Cocktails are around $15-18 with 20% service charge/tips that compulsory. So, roughly $20~ per drink. I would say they are strong drinks, with good amount of alcohol in them. I enjoyed all the drinks I had and so did my partner. Again, pricey, but expected for the setting.
The service here is excellent. Staff are friendly and attentive. They took great care of us and we were very happy with our time there. The person leading the activities were different for the days we were there. The first lady was excellent, she was very engaging and shared her knowledge about the various activities with us. We did a yoga and soundbath session with the same person and she was amazing for both. The second lady the next day was kind of apathetic about the whole thing. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there at all and that vibe definitely bled into the soundbath session. We also did a boat tour on Lake Delton and it was fantastic. The weather was great and our tour guide was fun and entertaining. The main thing I would say is to not get food for the boat tour. The food are essentially boxed in to-go boxes and you bring them on the platoon. Not the best set up for a meal. Ordering drinks it probably a good idea though.
Talking about food, I would give the food a 1/5 star. The price is high and I'm not complaining about it because I understand and expect higher prices at a luxury resort/spa. But the quality of the food is disappointing. It is at best barely average. We had one of each meal here. Dinner was probably the worst. I got a salmon meatball meal and there were very very dry. We also order a lettuce warp that came with a nice dipping sauce. The dipping sauce made the salmon meatball eatable. Otherwise, the quality of the meatball is definitely a dish I would have sent back at a luxury restaurant. My partner had the margherita pizza and she felt it was similar to something you could buy off the shelf at a grocery store. Breakfast the next day was disappointing too. Not as bad as dinner. I got the breakfast croissant and it was soggy and did look like something you expect to find at a hospital's cafeteria. My partner had the Belgium Waffles and she was happy with it but again not worth the price. It was $18++ with one waffle and like 4-5 berries. For lunch, she got a chicken salad and I had the chicken pita. They were fine but definitely felt like there had been sitting out for awhile. We are both healthcare providers and have had many meals at hospital cafeteria. I do think it is a very accurate description of the quality of the food except you are paying 4x the price.
I strongly recommend people leave Sundara for food. There are plenty of excellent options for food nearby. Sundara Inn also provides free shuttle to some select locations where you can get food. They don't really emphasize the shuttle service, probably because they want to keep you on site as much as possible. But, you shouldn't waste your money on the food here. Even taking into account the more luxury setting, I would say I was disappointed in all of my meals here. I would have probably complained if my experience in other parts were...
