Please read before going !!! As a worker of a local business I like to keep my business local as I like when customers shop local in my business
Before I tell you my story let me tell you the back story I have a Traxxas 2wd and the motor went out so I went to mikes hobby shop to replace it while I was there Chad tried to up sell me brushless motor I didn’t find the need for it and just replaced it with the regular one at $35 dollar on my way out Chad told me that in the future if I wanted to replace the motor with a brushless motor I could bring in the old motor to receive a $ 30 credit toward the purchase of a brushless motor I left and about a week later that motor went out so At this point I’m ready to upgrade to a brushless motor so I called mikes hobby to make sure that promotion was still going on and the guy I talked to told me yes it was , all excited I went home and got the motor out of the rc car the next day I headed to mikes hobby shop and this is where everything goes sideways.
I walked in and Chad was behind the counter with another guy , the other guy helped as Chad was busy at the current moment I walked up to the register and explained to the guy what I was looking to accomplish and put the motor on the counter the guy then asked me for another part off my rc , I explained to the guy that all that was told to me was that I needed the motor , he then proceeded to tell me it is what it is at this moment Chad jumped in and told me I could pay full retail and return my old motor and stuff for a store credit I asked Chad why I would do that it makes no sense he then proceeded to tell me I could talk to the owner where I asked if he was there and available , chad said yes and that the owner Mike was walking up right now. I waited a few minutes as mike was busy when he got done Chad told mike this guy has a concern for you, Mike then asked how he could help I proceeded to tell mike the situation where mike then proceeded to lower his mask and step towards me yelling at me that they made a mistake , due to mikes aggression the original guy that helped me told mike to calm down mike then offered me pay full retail for the brushless motor and at a later time I could bring in my old motor and get the $30 refund for whatever reason so made I swiped my card for $182 and left so upset , realizing how much I spent and how upset I was I called mike and asked for a full refund where he agreed I went back in got my money back and later wrote mikes hobby on Facebook where he proceeded to call me cocky and disrespectful and proceeded to threaten me and my company see pictures of the messages on yelp due to google won’t let me post them
Update the owner of mikes hobby (mike) actually stopped by my store today , and very rudely demanded to speak to a manger in regards to my experience yesterday, when told that I was the manager he asked to go over my head do to if he talked to me it would only end up worse for me as I felt threatened he was asked to leave . This man has anger management issues and will stalk you based of a shirt or any clues he has!! Stay away from this place...
Read moreI recently bought a truck from Mike's hobby. I've never been to this shop do to it being 45 minutes away, so I just walked in to see what products they had. Customer service was alright during my first visit, as I was looking for parts. Which lead to me buying a new vehicle. I get home and the truck only turns one direction as I'm trying to make sure everything works properly. The next day I call Mike's hobby and explain my situation with the vehicle that a part was defective. The young man asked me to bring the truck in, thinking ok either they are going to exchange it out for a new one since the truck has not even been driven. Or that they would be able to see the same issues, of the steering servo that was defective as I did. Then order in a replacement. Just all around come up with a solution. Instead the owner asked me to leave the vehicle for a few days because his tech was not in. I declined due to the attitude of the owner. I stated that they are a 45 min drive away and it's a inconvenience to leave it then come back not to mention traffic. Maybe he was offended thinking I was trying to pull one over his eyes? Which was not my intention at all. Instead he tried to sell me more parts. Rather then resolving the situation. So Mike's hobby won this issue. I resolved it by buying a aftermarket servo from a local hobby shop near me that I know and trust. It ultimately left a bad taste in my mouth that I had to drive back down there to fix nothing. Do to the owners lack of care for his customers. Not mention that if you have no experience in working or tinkering on the vehicles he sales. Why sell them? The issue was obvious also a simple diagnosis, that anyone in the hobby with a little experience could figure out. There was a huge deterrent walking into the store for me, do to seeing vacuums and vacuum repair. When it says in big yellow letters "Mike's Hobby." Maybe separate the stores so customers dont have that doubt. Also when a customer returns with a issue. Try to resolve it rather then look at it and tell them to leave it there, because you dont know or want to try and figure the issue out, on the products you sell. It's just bad for business. Hopefully you can fix your issues with customer support. Best of luck, from a non...
Read moreUPDATE: Changing my rating to 4 stars for them, Mike's Hobby definitely redeemed themselves. Chad gave me a crash course on my Arrma FT and tuned it for me. Also, if it happens again, he said to bring it in, and he'll take care of it. Mike's Hobby took my first complaint like a champ and did it transparently, still cannot give them a 5 due to resorting to a review. But after today I would make them my primary store! Thank you, Chad! Appreciate it, especially learning more of the hobby!
Bought an Arrma Fireteam from them and went back to seek help because I noticed that the passenger front wheel had TOO much camber. But the same person that helped me get my Fireteam just said "They're not perfect." Like really that's all? No advice or whatever? I just started the hobby and it is my first Arrma, so tried reaching out to Arrma but no response either. So fixed the camber myself by moving the shims from the driver front ones onto the passenger and added 1 more washer. Camber good right? NOPE, today the passenger front cvd/dogbone slipped and can already see that the output cup is kind of getting eaten by that dogbone/cvd. I think it is caused by that much shimming on the upper link so now there's too much slop on that cvd/dogbone. so what am i supposed to do? have to upgrade soon or something? Can't get support from the local hobby store that i only decided to go for because you know support your local stores. But I don't think i'm going back, definitely feels like i bought a brand new product that was lemon. but guess what they said all sales are final. And no support! Awesome! Only giving them a two star because the first time i was there, the person i talked to had a lot of advice and actually had a conversation with me for the hobby. But other than that i wouldn't...
