We love to make weekend trips from our home near Orlando to the Atlantic coast. As lovely as it is to be on/near the beach, we don't spend the midday hours outdoors - it's just too hot and humid, or pouring rain. Our favorite place in Vero Beach to spend an afternoon out of the sun/thunderstorms is the Wildwood Antique Mall.
Like most antique malls, there's something here for everyone...from true antiques to stuff you'd expect to find at yard sales, from brand new local art to collectibles from every decade and everything in between. Furniture, housewares, decor, toys, books, collectibles, vintage clothing and jewelry...it's hard to think of something they don't have! And there are items at every price point...I looked at things today that ranged from $2 to thousands of dollars.
It's a perfect place to spend a few hours with my hubby. He gravitates to albums and 45s whenever he sees them, which gives me time to get ahead and wander through every booth. Then he catches up until he finds more records. But Rick's record booth near the front is where he actually buys the good stuff. I think we came home with five albums today - mostly Frank Sinatra.
I bought a cute little mid-century modern table with a new green chalk paint finish on top. It was marked $35, but was in a booth where everything was 25% off. Score! And I bought an adorable little turtle Christmas ornament (I buy ornaments everywhere I go).
One of my favorite things about Wildwood is they actually have shopping carts. I've never seen that in an antique mall before. So nice for collecting treasures and holding my purse. But they do have shelves up front to hold things that you gather if you don't want to push a cart.
Michael, the owner, is super friendly and helpful and can always be counted on to let you know about the other antique shops in town that you should also visit or to provide a recommendation for a restaurant where the locals dine (we walked away today with six other business cards).
We wouldn't visit Vero without making a trip to Wildwood and coming home with a souvenir or two that you won't find in any...
Read moreA total jewel of Vero Beach. When you walk in you may be stunned in one of two ways it depends on what kind of person you are really. You can look at it as a treasure hunt, or as an overwhelming amount of stuff! I take everyone who is visiting here. I'm always a little apprehensive at first as they acclimate and almost every time they fall in love and at the very least make a single purchase. Overtime we have met the manager who is cheerful and will greet customers. Which I always attribute to extremely valuable in business. The customer is your success. So that's great. The place is unique and crafted carefully. Each vendor has a non attended booth in which they style with their most often second hand items. They can use their own themes which adds to creativity and fun. This area was hit by the tornado prior to our last hurricane here and this shop had been hit. However, they have come back strong. I definitely recommend a must stop if you are in Vero. We go at least once a month. Here are some photos of the unique jewels I have found in home decor that now add to my everyday joy. I just love them! Maybe the vendors would be happy to see where their sale ended up as well! In the photo of my kitchen on the table the flower arrangement and vase I recently purchased, the angel wings on the wall and wood sconces we bought from one of the front booths near the register (both of those booths are my favorites), the wreath which I added the bow I got a long while back, the metal wall hanging with a wood frame we got for a space above the pantry, and the metal angel statue from one of the shops directly accross from the entrance doors. Thanks to you All. You can't find these items at Marshalls or in a department store. Definitely a...
Read moreLovely shop with lots of interesting stuff, but the manager (owner?) Michael(?) is shady and will try to charge differently than marked when you get to the register. I was sad to watch the way he treated an elderly customer while I was there waiting to pay for my items. He escalated a misunderstanding unnecessarily, and created a bad situation. My sister in law and I have enjoyed many trips to this mall but after that we will not be back. Sure, there’s a lot of cool stuff under one roof, but I cannot support someone who treats customers so poorly. There are many other places to shop. Too bad, because I’m sure he doesn’t care and in the end it’s the vendors that will suffer.
Response to the manager’s bizarre rant below: The middle-aged female employee and the young male employee discussed whether it was one piece or two for the price before the young man loaded the wood onto the cart and took it to the register, where the lady paid, and the young man loaded the wood into her car while she paid. You then went out to the car and accused the old lady of trying to steal. You were aggressive and confrontational; of course she was upset. I watched all this. She then paid for the piece you accused her of trying to steal. Her bossy daughter was trying to calm things down until you said something I didn’t hear and she lost her cool with you. I don’t blame her. You, sir, are a very poor manager. And I won’t be back (especially after your weird response to my review). And I will tell all my friends to steer clear of you. VB is a small town. You’re creepy the way you respond to every review and get upset if you only get 4 stars. You need counseling or medication or a desk job somewhere in a corner...
