American Samaritan — Attraction in Lakewood

I used American Samaritan before with good experience, and published a 5-star review, but when I called on them a second time I had a very different result. They allegedly provide furnishings at little to no cost for those in need, but I became very skeptical because they were incredibly picky about the furniture they would take: they refused furniture in otherwise very good to excellent condition with minor scuffs or scratches. This led me to question if they are really a for-profit resale operation, rather than a charitable organization. In addition, I had to pay for pick-up because my location was less than a mile outside their service radius.

Addendum: In response to my criticism (above), I received a lengthy and courteous reply from the owner, Mr. Evans (see below). I did call Mr. Evans and was very appreciative of the ensuing discussion, including not only an explanation, but also an apology for a perceived customer service failure. I am very impressed with Mr. Evans' willingness to take my criticism as constructive feedback. So, I am modifying my review to 4-stars. I will use American Samaritan the next time I need to donate household and office furnishings, and I recommend others to use...

I can't say enough good things about this overall experience! First of all, the showroom has an amazing selection and very reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and greet you right when you walk in, they assist you in quickly finding what you're looking for. Browsing is easy too because the store is well-organized, and items are carefully and thoughtfully displayed. Everything is well marked with prices, and friendly workers are standing by to help load things into your vehicle. Rebecca and Tasha and everyone we've encountered have been good genuine people. They offer delivery, which we took advantage of for our heavy items. Delivery was scheduled easily and we were fortunate to have Marty and Tim as our delivery drivers! They were friendly and courteous, and careful with our items... In addition to the big heavy dressers, our new grandfather clock was disassembled, wrapped and delivered with exceptional care.

If you want to feel great about your spending power, and if you want to walk away with some perfect items at a great price to furnish your home, I cannot recommend American Samaritan enough. Thank you to everyone involved in this...

I am so glad I found this organization! I was looking for a baby grand piano now that my three kiddos are getting a little older and have been enjoying our electronic keyboard. I found their ad on craigslist and after emailing them I got a phone call that afternoon. I spoke with Douglas, who seems as knowledgeable as he is passionate about pianos and putting the gift music in peoples' homes! His daughter auditioned the piano for me over the phone and I was sold! :) A few days later, two proficient movers came to the house with our new (to us) piano! They moved it in and helped explain some of the cool things about the piano that I had not known about.

As a casual musician, I wasn't exactly sure what I would be looking for in a used piano, but I felt relieved to know that Douglas and his team go over each piano to ensure that it is a properly working instrument and that it will last a lifetime more. It felt great to know I was supporting an organization that also works to help place pianos with families who don't have the means to afford one.
