Certainly exceeded my expectations given the area it's in. Plenty of exploring to do, multiple geocaches, even saw some people rock climbing. Dog friendly, but not as conducive to letting your pooch roam free as other nearby locations (surrounded by highways / turnpikes, no real swimming area). More woodsy and less manicured than similar locations, which has both it's pluses and minuses. Very relaxing escape into nature... until you get near the highway. Went with a dog and a 12 year old and they both had a blast- 12 year old particularly loved the geocaching aspect (worth the $5 or so for the app to make a kid feel like Indiana Jones while he's walking through the woods in Lawrence).
For what it's worth I didn't see a single needle, if- like me- that possibility may be a hangup for you....
Read moreI'm surprised something like this is within the limits of the City of Lawrence. Nice little trails and even some spots for rock climbers. Small but still quite nice. Sometimes the trails are unkempt and I know one of my friends who visits often actually cut down a large tree limb blocking one of the paths because it had been there for months and nobody maintained it. If you go closer to afternoon the bugs are out and about nice walk for your leashed dogs. Elevation varies which is a great work out trails are clearly marked. There's bird sanctuary.
