Zero stars would be more adequate to describe just how discriminatory this place is towards their customers. Not only do they implement last second changes to their venue policies, but they do so without warning their customers first. So now, customers who purchased tickets can either scramble to get them sold/returned or they can take the hit to their bank accounts during one of the hardest times, financially, in modern human history.
While a majority will see this policy change as a brilliant step in the right direction to combating our current pandemic, several of us who have been taking all the right precautions are now left to stand outside or stay at home. The crazy thing is, we have been at home. We've been home this entire time, following strict guidelines to the letter, and we are still not allowed to attend a venue with people who are just as likely to spread Covid-19's Delta variant as those who are not vaccinated. It's bizarre that we live in a time where companies are not only failing to produce a rational sort of income but are now willing to lose income based around fear, discriminatory government policies, and their own political bias.
We had never heard of Liberty Hall until recently and were very excited to go to tonight's show. It was going to be a great experience that my boyfriend would cherish as he has been waiting for years to see "Between the Buried and Me". Unfortunately, due to these last second policy changes, we will not be attending not only tonight's show at this venue, but any other upcoming show that may happen here. You have lost our business from this point forward in the most willing fashion one could ever lose...
Read moreIt would seem that the general manager doesn't quite understand that discrimination is not civil, nor is a smart business move for his industry to promote. "The live event industry just emerged from its worst year on record." said Dean Edington, General Manager of Liberty Hall. "Many famous (and infamous) venues didn't get out alive and may never reopen. Luckily, the Hall survived through sheer will of the staff and if we can't curb this thing its all going to be for nothing. Just a few months ago, I felt confident that we were going to beat this thing, but a combination of the Delta variant, loosening of government protocol, vaccine hesitancy and misinformation has put us right back where we were. While I strongly disagree with science deniers and anti-vaxers, that is their personal choice to make, but I do not hold quarter for persons who willfully choose to endanger the life and livelihood of our staff, our patrons, the artists and crew and their families. I don't take this lightly but the physical and mental well-being of our community and the Hall is of prime importance. The mission of Liberty Hall is to promote culture, civility and enlightenment to the Lawrence community through entertainment and assembly and, as a symbol of the community in this regard, it is important to take the lead on this, in hopes the rest of the community will follow suit and persons on the fence will have a reason to choose vaccination. With several upcoming tours already making requests for similar policies, it was the only logical step to take to ensure that live music can continue and responsible members of the community are not exposed to...
Read moreNo re-entry for under 21, sorry but this policy is BS. My brother paid for me to come to a show and he ended up wasting his money because I had to get some air. They post signs ABOVE the doorway about their policy, well out of view when you're focusing on getting out of the dreadful intermission crowd. A sign like that should be posted on the doors at eye level.
Security was unhelpful, flagged me once for a non-alchoholic drink (plain tonic water), understandably doing his job.
BUT Then when I had left for fresh air, he sent me on a ratrace getting my brother down to vet me comIng back in, only to deny me and escourt me out. Couldnt help but think one co-orilated to the other. I felt like he didnt want me in his theater even while endevouring his demands.
I ask Liberty hall, what would happen if a kid and their Mother needed to use the restroom at an adjacent business because the line in house was too long, would you let them back in? If yes, why would you deny that to your other paying customers?
Another scenario, what happens if a 16 year old is denied re-entry and has to paruse the streets of Lawrence at night when everything is closed or closing looking for a place to bide their time while their ride is still in the theater?
Would you let them in? If so, why not your other patrons?
Why not a 20 year old in the same situation? 5 months away from 21 and denied a night of fun with his brother barely a year his senior for it.
I hope when I'm 21 you'll give me the privilage of not robbing any more nights...
