Many years ago, my computer was stolen, wiped clean and recovered. I had years of personal writing lost. One of my students recommended Kentucky Trade Computer Services. Everyone else had told me that my information was lost forever. KY Trade Computer found my information.
Then, a few years later, my computer went on the fritz. They saved it.
Over the years, these folks have given me advice on buying computers and computer equipment -- whether or not I've ended up buying from them.
I bought a cheap second-hand computer from them for emergency use and they replaced the charger for me twice without charge.
I've been shown how to do things to protect my computer; advised against things that sound good, but are just money spent on something I could get for free; advised to purchase something that was cheaper than what I thought I needed, but was actually what I really needed. I once took in a computer that was a brand notorious for problems -- especially melted motherboards. I was told I could replace it, but that it would just burn out again, or I could put that money toward a new computer and was actually advised to purchase a brand of computer that they don't sell. They've taken me back in the shop to see what they were doing to my computer (and to point out the sheer number of computers in their shop from that particular brand in with fried motherboards).
I also once too a friend there to purchase a computer. He was older and money wasn't an issue for him. He said he wanted the best computer -- and literally told them that price didn't matter. Instead of just setting him up with their most expensive computer, they asked him what he wanted to do on the laptop. They could have set him up with an expensive gamer model, but instead, when they learned he just wanted to email, surf the net, maybe store some photos, they set him up with a fairly inexpensive model.
I feel like family there. I would recommend them to anyone, any time for anything computer-tech-ish. I trust...
Read moreI’m in the process of building a PC. So, after searching for a PC store in Lexington I came across these guys online and thought, cool lets go have a look to see their inventory. Upon arriving to the store I was approached by the store clerk, who asked me if I needed any help, to which I replied “no thank you I’m just browsing. After a few minutes I noticed she was still hovering over me like I was going to steal something... ok cool. I then ask her for help with a PC component (20 pin splitter). She goes to get her “PC tech” whom I’m pretty sure is one of the owners of the store.
The “tech” comes out and I explain to him what I need. My motherboard does not have enough FRONT type A USB 3.0 headers and I need more for my 011 case that has two front connections. He replies “I thought you said you didn’t have enough headers on the motherboard” in the most condescending way with a chuckle. I repeat myself, and THEN he says, oh you need this product (PCIE express adapter). I ask him how much it is and how often they get them in stock. He says “we usually keep them in stock but we may use these for builds in the back, WHY DO YOU ASK?” (Staring at me in suspicion as if my questions have an ulterior motive). I’m asking because I’m a customer that may buy it when my paycheck hits Friday lol (my thoughts). I say thank you and he walks off. As he walks off he says something under his breath to the clerk.... If you don’t want African American people shopping there then lead with that. I felt VERY unwelcome, Judged, and profiled, not to mention I was spoken to like I was stupid. What I did notice in my short time there is that they scalp 3080s. The EVGA card is 600-700 dollars being sold for...
Read moreI built my own computer just over 7 years ago; it was high speed, water cooled for gaming, (I know & I don't game online anymore ). About 3 years ago I was ready to quit gaming & took it in for a check up, bath and a newer Non-H2O Heat Sink. Since then I have recommended them to others for excellent support, fair pricing & to pet the dog. I recently had a flash HD put in to replace a seriously close to death platter HD. They somehow saved 100% (as far as I can tell) of my Data and sent me home with a solid up & running machine, that still screams for a fair price. The guys have always been great and several of my friends have used them & one for sure purchased a system from them. As to any comments regarding them being polite or not; we must remember that everyone has a bad day, many customers start off rude or short (probably due to frustration because their system is not working) and they are & I say this with the deepest admiration, computer "geeks, nerds, etc. All of which have root meanings implying that they are somehow ignorant; when in reality it is most of US that are the ignorant ones... otherwise we'd be doing all the stuff they do and saving money. Granted some of us are more lazy than ignorant in these matters, but we are still with the majority of their customers, I am too lazy to keep up with the Tech so I have now become ignorant. And just to insure no one is insulted, ignorant is not stupid, it's unaware of or lacking the knowledge... no training/ education. Bottom line; I really appreciate what they have done for me and those I have sent to them. They should be supported with our patronage.... that is all. Have a Great Day & go...
