While staying in town on vacation, my wife and I have visited the gallery on several occasions over the years and we have become fascinated with the depth of their knowledge and the wide selection of beautiful jewelry and artifacts. Last year, we participated in one of their "Exploriance" beachcombing tours with a group of other people, and it was very informative and fun (even though it was pouring rain and essentially gale force winds). :) This year, the gallery modified their offerings due to Covid, and we decided to go on one of the Private Beachcombing Tours with Laura. These allow us to maintain appropriate distancing, although it was just my wife and I on the tour today. Once again, the weather did not disappoint (though not nearly as bad as last year). Laura is so passionate and knowledgeable about the local geology, it is difficult not to get swept up in her enthusiasm as she describes the local geology and the forces that created the Western coastline as we know it today. She takes the time to find different styles of rocks that anyone can find on the beach, and then goes into detail about how that rock came to be, and where it came from. She loves to share her passion for "rock literacy" and just wants people to be able to "read" basic types of rocks they may find on the local beaches. Anything of interest is ours to keep. The private tours are booked in advance based on the local tides, so if you decide to participate, pick one that works for you and hope the weather holds out! If you aren't in the mood for a beach tour, then for sure stop by the gallery when they are open to view all of the various types of rocks, gems, and jewelry. You can always ask questions and you will be sure to get friendly and super-informative answers. A must-see location when passing through or staying in...
Read moreThis is a new post. The quality & graduate level of education provided with each visit has only improved. We took part in a night walk which was outstanding. The walk was thoughtfully planned with frequent checks to make certain participants were doing okay. We were encouraged to contemplate questions with sharing at the end offered but not required. Walking on the beach at night was magical. Yummy homemade Artisan treats were provided to eat & drink around the bon fire. A perfect end to the experience. I encourage you to sign up & immerse yourself in the sound of waves, soft brush of the wind, the cool sand between your toes while guided by Laura on this great experience. Linda 6-27-25
Thank you for the stunning artistry crafted deftly by Laura and Mac!! Recipients of gifts that I purchased in this cozy shop teeming with options, have expressed amazement at the beauty and the descriprions of where the stones were mined and their composition. A geology lesson is offered if desired. RYW staff are truly excited about your beach combing finds and discussing all things geology. They are very professional and deeply committed to getting you just the right piece. They mailed out my gifts and plenty of time for the holiday. I will be...
Read moreI was with my wife when we went in and the staff was rude and screamed at her to use their alcohol upon entering which she had accidently forgotten to put on. She left nearly crying and it left me feeling upset with them, and my wife LOVES gem stores. Stores like this, and all of Oregon for that matter, need to get with the times as other states and places have done in regards to the pandemic and lighten up...
Seeing the responses of the owner to other comments critiquing their store is hilarious though, and highly unprofessional as well, and I have no doubt that they will respond here and in like manner because they do not know any better unfortunately. It seems they really do not care for a healthy business with their customers, let alone anyone that makes a minor mistake.
EDIT: As expected, and of course with no sympathy once more. Again, using hand sanitizer wasn't the problem, but how the staff reacted as stated was uncalled for. Remember, you are the ones whom chose to be rude to your customers whom were simply trying to visit. Next time, try to show a little kindness towards others (your customers included) as it does go a long way, but I guess that wouldn't fit in your culture...
