We booked a room at this facility on short notice after seeing a favorable winter weather forecast. Upon arrival, you park at the front door, check in and then you must move your car to a parking lot through a tunnel to the other side of Highway 101 and then walk back to your room. They do have a valet service. When we checked in, there was a cat laying on the counter named mama. We were told she is 25 years old!. Since we are cat lovers we were delighted. The front desk personnel were very friendly and accomodating. Our room was very large and spacious with a superb View of the ocean. It was at this point that things started going downhill. It was cold in the room so we turned the heat up and tried to light the fireplace. The fireplace had a remote but we couldn't figure it out so he called for maintenance. The maintenance man showed us where the switch was to turn on the fireplace. We never would've found it! As it turned out, it wasn't a real fireplace. It only had a simulated flame that produced no heat. I asked the maintenance man how to use the remote and he replied "I don't know I have never figured it out". A few minutes later we decided to turn on the TV and watch the news. Most TV remotes have a Guide button but this one didn't. We scrolled through the channels endlessly but could not find our favorite station. We looked in the three ring binder with all of the hotel info but there is no TV channel guide so in frustration we called the front desk to ask them the channel number for our favorite new station. They couldn't tell me but instead sent the maintenance man back to our room. He found a separate binder with Channel listings. Unlike every TV I have ever had, you must enter two numbers than a dash than a third number for your favorite channel. It was all very mind numbing. At this point we decided to make a reservation at the in-house restaurant. When we called, there was no answer so we left a message. Our call was never returned. Eventually we called the front desk and they made a reservation for us. Since we are vegans, we had a very limited choice. We ordered a beet salad and a garden salad that were tastefully prepared. The service was fast and friendly. When we went to bed that night, even with the thermostats turned on high, we could not get the room to warm up. The bed consisted of a sheet and a light bedspread and there were no extra blankets in the room so I got out of bed and called the front desk for an extra blanket. Up to this point it had been a frustrating day. The next morning, I went to brew a cup of coffee in the Keurig Coffee maker but couldn't get it to turn on. Once again we had to call maintenance. The problem was a ground fault interrupter circuit breaker that had been tripped. After breakfast, we checked out and took the long walk uphill to the parking lot to get our car and departed for our next destination in Newport. On this trip to the beach, we stayed at three different properties in Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, and Newport. We had a wonderful time with our beach Front rooms and enjoyed all of our hotels with the exception of the Inn at Spanish Head. It is unlikely we would ever return to this property. Unfortunate because of the magnificent views. Hopefully, if you book a room at this property you will have a better experience than we did. Thank you...
Read moreI'll start off by saying, oh MY GOSH, what a view! The angle of the wing I was in lended a full coastal view for what seemed like miles down the coastline, and the beach was often deserted lending to the feel of a private beach although it was open to public but easier to access as a guest of the hotel. I'll also say that the staff was wonderful, friendly, helpful and down to Earth folks. The room took some getting used to, however. I chose a murphy bed room and expected that might lend to a larger room feel. However, the furniture was much too large for the room and left me moving furniture around just to navigate the living and kitchen areas. Also, I do understand that these condos are privately owned and will have the owner's stuff stored there, but in this particular room, there was very little storage for my own travel case, and bathroom necessities and I basically just lived out of my suitcase for 4 days. Not the end of the world but a little more storage would have been appreciated. I bought groceries in order to cook my own meals during my stay, and realized once I got there with my food how little there was in the way of cooking pots, pans and utensils and absolutely nothing in the way of foil, saran wrap or plastic containers for leftovers. One pot was so scarred from previous uses, it looked like a lion had sharpened his claws on the non-stick coating. But some wear is expected... To be brutally honest, my hubby and I had decided to go stay at the beach as a bit of a celebration. I had lost 26 pounds...which has put me at almost my target weight with a little ways to go in my diet. I was feeling quite pleased with how I was looking after all my hard work. Now I told you that part to tell you this next part. Every, and I mean EVERY, wall in the whole room was mirrored --- which lent to a funhouse feel without the fun. :) Although I had worked very hard to lose the weight, navigating a completely mirrored room just reminded me that, nope, I still have some weight to lose and there's no getting away from the proof on every wall including the bathroom which lends to quite a few too many angled views. Some people might like that however, but for me, it was a bit disheartening and I ended up referring to the place at the Inn of the Spirit Crushing Mirrors. lol I didn't sleep a single wink the first two nights. The bed was oddly lumpy and super uncomfortable and I got up extremely sore every morning...and I finally asked the front desk for some help. They suggested an egg crate mattress and I had one delivered. When we pulled off the sheets to put the pad on, there was already an egg crate mattress pad on it, however, it was so old, the lumps had hardened and the pad was bunchy. We took it off the mattress, and that night I slept much better. lol The pool and hot tub were AMAZING...great therapy for my sore back and we were lucky enough to have it completely to ourselves for two hours on two mornings of our stay. Having an indoor hot tub with open air doors was a delight. All in all, my stay was pleasant despite a few setbacks here and there. So bottom line, would I stay at the Inn at the Spanish Head again? YES - Absolutely...but not in the room I was given. But THAT...
Read moreSo I’ll start with the positives, I got engaged this weekend, the beach was incredible, other guests were friendly. Food was delicious, bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, when we arrived, housekeeping or the previous guests had left the heater on full blast and it was like a million degrees, took us forever to find the thermostat hidden behind a lamp. Balcony door was hard to open, had a bunch of holes around the edges, and the balcony itself is very open and not private at all, about a six inch gap between the divider from the adjoining rooms balcony, and the railing. Caught the neighbors leaking around the side while I was undressed. So that was not great. Tv was not set up, multiple cables unplugged. The worst though, was the staff. Now with the exception of two or three employees there, everyone treated me and my, now fiancé, as if we were wasting their time and they had better things to do. I asked ahead of time for a bottle of wine to be brought up for the proposal, and they were really annoyed I couldn’t just call when I needed it, even though I was just trying to surprise my partner, and had some privacy to call while he was in the shower. We were unable to eat dinner at the restaurant due to it being overbooked, had to eat dinner in bed. Though I still think the worst part of the weekend was the staff, like I said, there were a couple really nice people, a friendly janitor when I got turned around trying to find the cafe bathroom in the morning, a young lady who chased us down in the lobby after ordering dinner because the restaurant forgot to ask what size prime rib my fiancé wanted. Unfortunately despite the good things from the weekend, most of them having nothing to do with the hotel itself, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and this business’ weakest link is customer service. (Coming from someone who works in the industry myself, knowing what the job is like.) We we’re really excited about the trip, but all in all, unlikely to come again, and will probably steer family and friends away if they plan on staying in Lincoln city. Really disappointing, the hotel has such potential as it probably has the best balcony views in the city, just couldn’t live up to the...
