We hired Mary, at Wayside Kitchens, because we felt really comfortable with her and their family owned company is not far from our house. In addition, she assured us she could design a kitchen within our budget and timeframe with the features and materials we desired (which is more than we can say for some of the bigger competitors). She and her assistant presented us with three designs which met our main goals of additional storage space and better lighting. We were able to pick elements from two of those to create the final design. The styles/colors she choose for use were spot on with our likes so we didn't have to do much back and forth.
We were able to get semi-custom cherry cabinets with soft close hardware including large drawers in the island, spice rack next to the oven and lazy suzan in the corner. Mary's initial choice for the granite slab was also to our liking and had a great feature to present on the island. The floor was changed from linoleum to 20 inch porcelain tiles and the back splash now consists of textured tiles with smaller glass tiles for added color. We also have a nice deep stainless steel sink and excellent faucet. New appliances were not in our budget, but her design did leave space for a larger fridge in the future. While the pot lights were included in the budget the actual pendant lights we selected.
Mary's husband, Jim, performed the demolition and the cabinet installation and trim. He worked professionally and timely. He even let our 4 year old son "help". The rest of work was performed by sub-contractors. The electrical work, wall preparation and counter top measurement and installation were all performed with much professionalism. Unfortunately the tile work was not up to ours or Wayside Kitchen's expectations with uneven tile placement and lack of clean up. Mary brought in a different sub-contractor to fix what errors he could. Unfortunately full correction of the backsplash would have damaged the drywall. To be fair the remaining mistakes are not immediately noticeable until closer inspection but Mary and Jim still compensated for the trouble to our satisfaction.
Even with that minor bump the project stayed under budget and only a week or two beyond the expected end date. We got the kitchen we desired with the features we wanted. We love Mary and Jim and would definitely use their services again and recommend them to...
Read moreLet me first say, we could not be happier with our new, transformational kitchen, we absolutely love it. It was not cheap but a lot of that is on us for what we wanted. Let's get the price out of the way, not going to say how much it was, but it was considerably more than we thought we were going to spend. We contemplated not doing it at all, to scaling back, etc. In the end, I asked my wife, if we scale things back or leave things out, are you going to really get what you want. When the answer was no, the path was clear. Working with Mary and her husband, and team, was great. It was a process, in that there were a LOT of decisions to be made and things would need to be decided upon, or potentially changed daily. I think that's the nature of a major kitchen renovation. Fortunately, I work from home and was available every day to oversee the progress, and make spot decisions as needed, and that happened a lot. Mary was great to work with, very flexible, while driving towards an overall design goal with a 32 year more modern kitchen, We removed a wall, widened another - basically transformed a 1990s dark closed off kitchen into a 2025 modern (but timeless classic) kitchen that will serve us until we leave the house! Mary had said 4 to 6 months, and we came in at about 4 months. It was a long process, but well worth it. I am super happy with Mary and her husband Jim - the nicest people around to work with on a kitchen. We love our kitchen - it costed more than we though the would spend, but in the end, we got exactly what we wanted, and it was worth it. Would not hesitate to recommend working with Mary and her team at Wayside Kitchens, and hope to use them again in the future for other projects...
Read moreWe originally contacted Wayside Kitchens for help redesigning our kitchen, which wasn't working for us. We knew we needed a more functional space, but we weren't sure how to get it. Mary was, in short, awesome. She listened to our chief complaints about the kitchen and delivered a plan that solved the issues one by one. And in the process, updated our kitchen to the most beautiful kitchen I have ever seen. (And added a mudroom!) More importantly, it is OUR kitchen. It is very, very representative of our tastes and a true reflection of our family. Mary was very good at listening to what we wanted and even helping me find things I didn't know I wanted, like my gorgeous granite island. And Jim is a true master craftsman. He is so incredibly precise and detailed. The quality of work was outstanding. Jim and Mary and everyone they worked with is warm and friendly, and our kids love them. We love our kitchen every day. In fact, we love it so much that we had Mary and Jim do more projects in our house. We added some built in cabinetry in our dining area, built in bookcases in our living room, and refurbish our upstairs bath. They are currently working on our master bathroom, and the only reason that we will probably not have them back in the next few years is that we have simply run out of projects. I highly recommend with...
