My father Mark Nelson and I were the featured exhibit here at the Illinois State Museum. The exibit was titled art made in and around the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Back in the 1990's the canal was dredged to deepen the I&M and they put all the mud on the side of the canal. Well after a major rain my dad and me started finding Old Old bottles all the way to the 1860s. Medicine bottles, whiskey bottles, milk, beer, pop and wine bottles. I never thought that collecting bottles with my dad would be displayed in a State Museum! We had the time of our lifes finding them. It was a daily treasure hunt i will never forget. Also Now my collection has been featured in an art exhibit at a historical museum right next to the same Canal that is a great part of my childhood memories with my Father. Thank you John and Nancy for making our...

Loved the Growing Up Gen X exhibit! I didn’t even know this branch of the Illinois museum existed until a post from the museum about the Gen X exhibit popped up on my Facebook feed the other day. I had missed this exhibit when it was in Springfield last year and was so happy to catch it closer to home. The entire exhibit was very well done and it was fun to show my teen things I had or used at her age. My fellow Gen X friend enjoyed it too.

John was so knowledgeable about upcoming museum and town activities that I now have a list of things I want to attend in the near future. I saved the Facebook event to attend their upcoming Ferris Bueller movie showing event in a few weeks.

I’m interesting in seeing the fine arts exhibit that will be replacing this one in a...

I visit the museum quarterly to see each collection. I visited Saturday and was disappointed when I asked if I could rent this facility out for a private event and was told not anymore. It’s a beautiful building on the IM canal that should be and could be used more by residents. So disappointed and a lost opportunity for the museum. So many more people would be able to appreciate the art. The director seemed disappointed also and confused on why it was changed to no private events. Please reach out if it...

Such a cool museum. Small, yet really beautiful. The building is historic. There's art. It's along the I&M. And the greeter, Nancy, ensures you feel like you're part of the picture. Out back, walk the I&m trail, and keep your eyes peeled for the Great White Egret who hangs out in the canal right behind the museum. This was my first visit, and I'll be back for sure. Oh! And visit the yarn and tea place next door (same building)
