LOVE this spot & what they have to offer! Recently tried their gyro plate off of their September Vegan Chef Challenge menu & was so satisfying π€πΌ I feel like I have to go back & get it once more before its gone bc Im not sure if it will be a permanent menu item!
π― The corn & flax wrap that they use instead of a pita blew my mind bc it was SO tastey & held all the walnut & sun-dried tomato based meaty goodness, cashew tzatziki & onions inside so perfectly ~ this handheld was a picture of perfection that just delighted my lil' gluten-free heart π€€ After I devoured it, I wished there was more (Seriously I could've ate double.. can we put more meaty goodness in there? lol)
& with the full plate, I got to try both sides of the tossed Mediterranian style salad w/ homemade vegan feta crumbles & apple citrus salad. Everything was so fresh & vibrant! That feta was delicious, tho I had to crumble it a bit, I was so impressed with how tastey it was. The dressing was flavorful & light. & the fresh fruits with cinnamon drizzle was such a treat. I couldn't have asked for a better lunch π
π₯ Also loved the fruity apple cider iced tea that I picked up for just $2 bucks! Love me some fresh tea, it was so refreshing & the little cup of raw agave they gave me to sweeten it was perfect!
All in all I highly recommend this spot, one of the ONLY all raw, all vegan, all GF cafes in the greater Chicagoland area! They have a huge menu & you can tell that everything is made mindfully & with yummy in mind. Being someone who lives on a budget, I'm choosey in where I spend my dollars as I can't afford to splurge on take out all the time ~ for the average low-income person their menu can be a tad pricey π (my only discontent) But the offerings here are worth it, especially considering its organic & scatch-made, your belly wont be disappointed & neither will your peace of mind. I wish I could've gotten more, so much I want to try! Omgosh I havent even tried the deserts yet! Such good vibes in this food & the owner/staff are friendly too! ππ½ Thank you for a great experience! Cant wait to...
Β Β Β Read moreThe Vegan Cafe in Lockport, IL was SO GOOD, we made a return trip in less than a week. Traveling and finding restaurants on the road presents many challenges for me because I am not just following a vegan lifestyle, I am healing cancer and eat organic, non-GMO, at least two raw meals each day, and don't eat "fake" vegan processed foods, sugar, or processed flour. It can be tough to enjoy eating away from home.
The Healthy Sins Vegan Cafe covered all the bases AND the food was delicious. We stopped on a whim on the way up to Michigan and it was so amazing, we stopped on the way back home.
The first trip we tried the vegan cheesesteak with a side of fresh fruit and I had the lasagna with a side salad. WOW! It was so delicious that on the way back, we sampled several other options (nachos, pizza, burger). My husband is not as strict and indulged with the Almond Butter Pie; he said it was scrumptious! My only regret is that we don't live nearby, or eating here would be a weekly treat.
The food was fresh, filling, and unique. I have been vegan for 7 years and eaten at vegan restaurants around the country. The Vegan Cafe is among my top three choices and there was no worry, just pure relaxation, because everything is organic, fresh, and gluten free. I eat raw foods frequently, but I haven't had anything like these options before. We will be stopping in again...
Β Β Β Read moreWhile their food is fresh, raw & delicious. There isn't a feasible option for you to carry out your food to enjoy at home. I drive nearly an hour to eat here, but today I was working in the neighborhood and decided to a stop in and grab my food to go. I ordered the taco salad, but asked if I could have another container rather than the compostable ones they have available(the toppings soak into the container). I was then informed that all the plastic is only to be used for catering. I was then offered an option to put the toppings on the side, which I agreed would be a fair option. But, in order to get the toppings on the side I would have to pay an additional fee of $1.50 because they had to use additional containers to place the toppings in. The entire encounter was disappointing and disheartening. So, I figured I'd just order something else instead. But, I decided to leave instead. I couldn't comfortably pay for food here if I couldn't get what I want & be charged as if I'm causing them an inconvenience for being a frequent customer. I'll be taking a break from this restaurant for awhile. I have to save up my gas money to afford to take my order to go.
EDIT.... Gotta love when an owner addresses you and works out different ways to solve this issue going forward. Right back to...
