My wife and I visited several stores on Devon Ave and in the Chicago suburbs while shopping for my brother’s wedding, and unfortunately, we were met with price gouging and unfair treatment—likely because I didn’t speak the language fluently and my wife isn’t of Indo/Pak descent.

But then we found Barakaa Collections in Lombard, and everything changed.

Mohamed and Meenu Anwar, the shop owners, welcomed us like family. Not only did they offer fair and honest pricing, but they took the time to understand our style and needs, helping us choose stunning outfits that truly stood out at the wedding events.

One evening, we stopped by after work, hungry and asking for restaurant recommendations. Instead, they invited us in and served us delicious home-cooked food. Who does that? Mohamed and Meenu did—and it meant the world to us.

My daughter and I didn’t know where to start to purchase gowns for a mosque ceremony, and the venue. The groom has been part of our family and we wanted to dress culturally appropriate. After driving around with no luck, as one store was closed (even though we went during their hours of operation), and another was out of business. Google led us to Barakaa Collections. Just walking in, I was greeted, and treated like a daughter that needed guidance. Menuu Anwar has such a goods sense of style, she was heaven sent!!! Her suggestions for my daughter, who’s 14 years old, and picky were right on!! She was so patient with us. She gave us very special pricing and helped us accessorize and gave us a gift. Thank goodness for Meenu and Barakaa Collections! I had an evening party to attend with the expectation that guests wear traditional Indian clothing. Intimidated by the sari, Meenu patiently and encouragingly offered beautiful alternatives that were on trend and comfortable for me. I’m taller than the average female so most clothing fits short in arm length and inseam. Meenu solved the problem by recommending I go up to a larger size, and then her tailor could customize it without sacrificing the longer length.
