The FEAST Garden is a wonderful natural space that promotes hands-on student learning, environmental sustainability and community engagement. The Oxy students do a fantastic job at planning educational programs that are free and open to the public. I recently attended with my toddler who enjoyed the activities immensely. During one program, the Oxy students taught the children the parts of a plant and gave them a tour of the vegetable garden. The children were also able to feed the hens spinach and learn about their diets. During another program, we learned about composting in a fun and age-appropriate way. The Oxy students led the children in exploring the compost piles—unearthing worms and bugs in the process!—and helped them make a worm craft.
