Vidiots — Local services in Los Angeles

I’m a big supporter of independent theaters so I’m really excited to have Vidiots on this side of town. The theater is beautiful and the workers are very nice and helpful. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because they don’t allow enough time for people to get to their seats before the movie starts. I went to a sold out show and was in my seat when the employee introduced the movie. Dozens of people were still in the lobby getting drinks and snacks during this time. They showed one preview before the movie. I’m not exaggerating when I say that for the first 10 minutes of the movie, people were coming in and standing in the aisle looking for their party or just a place to sit. It’s extremely hard to concentrate when people are blocking your view or asking you to scoot on by you. The New Bev shows like 5 min of previews so that by the time the movie is starting, 99% of people are already in their seat. Of course, the easy answer would be for people to pay attention to the time and get there on time but many people won’t. The movie was subtitled so I missed the first 10 min bc people were blocking my view of the subtitles. We know we can’t rely on people to get places on time so please play multiple previews or don’t allow people into the theater 10 min into the movie. First time Vidiot! I bought tickets online to see a special screening of Brewster McCloud. The movie theater is connected to the video store. My friends and I perused the titles while we waited for our vintage photo booth pictures to develop. $5 bucks per strip of four photos and worth every penny. If there is a hard to find film you're looking to rent, Vidiots will have it. Now for the theater. The lobby is cosy, with warm lighting, good consession options and a bar. The theater is medium sized, comfortable and clean. The seats are vintage, so no fancy recliners, which weren't missed in any way. I love that they pay homage to celebrities who have passed with special screenings. For Brewster McCloud, clips of Shelley Duvall's movies were shown in rotation before the actual film. A pleasantly quirky and nostalgic place to watch a movie, rent a video or have a drink at the bar.

The theatre is an ordinary room with simple chairs lined up to watch a movie like a school assembly, perhaps. Near the entrance, there is a nice bar and beyond the cinema, there is a video rental shop with memberships available. It somehow manages to be avant garde and old school simultaneously, a nice "double play", if you will.

We watched "The Surfer", a quirky flick that was perfect for the hip vibe of the cinema and clientele.
