My daughter and her roommate's asked my husband & myself to visit their new place in Korea Town (next to Hollywood) and on Sunday we attended their church called Oasis. First off parking is limited, so the church gives you a ticket to park in an underground structure which was convenient and only a few minutes walk to one of the prettiest churches that I've seen. There are three services on Sunday at 9am, 11am and 1pm and 7:30pm on Wednesdays. When we arrived, the church was packed! My first impression was amazement, that this church must have something very special to get this many people (my best guess was about 600-800) out of bed on a Sunday morning to attend. I've been a traditional Anglican (kind of Catholic lite) member for most of my life and used to a lot of kneeling, along with traditional hymns. At Oasis, the first thing I saw up front was a band with singers that had beautiful voices. Instantly almost everyone were up on their feet swaying to the music. It was very impressive. Then the Pastor came out and began his sermon and that all (including myself) seemed to be hanging on every word. This was very unique to me when I am so used to my churches quiet services. The message he gave was thought provoking which in my opinion, is why we listen to sermons. Then we resumed singing and the thing I liked best was the two very big video screens next to the musicians with the words to each song that made it very easy to sing along. After the service ended we were treated to a complete tour of this beautiful (big) church. It was awesome! The only thing that I missed having was taking Communion during the service. After commenting this, we were taken towards the outside doors and on both sides were little "Alter like" Communion stations that held mini sealed cups of wine (grape juice) with a wafer on top that each person consumed, and there was a beautifly written Communal Prayer on the wall to read aloud or silently during the taking of the Communion. This was different but still felt that Communion had been served. While walking back to our car, my husband and I were discussing the service, and we both agreed that without our daughter saying it out loud, that she was seeking our approval of her church selection. Though Oasis is different than our church, both of us enjoyed the whole experience and while not in our own Anglican style, we still associated with fellow Christians in our worship of God. Thank you to Oasis Church for sharing their good Christian...
Read moreOasis LA is overshadowed by its ineffectiveness in helping transform the surrounding conditions of Los Angeles. Even the sidewalk around the church is barely walkable and the church itself calls the cops on homeless individuals who disturb the peace. In fact with every new church plant in the city, LA’s social & economic decline seems to just get worse. Why is that?!
The old church building itself reminds us of a time when Christians actually left the city better and more beautiful than before. Now, church leaders use their platforms to enable the preexisting single-party power structures tearing the city apart. This is not the right legacy to leave!
This is the opposite of “love they neighbor.” And “rendering unto Caesar” does not justify this gross disconnect between the business of doing church, while neglecting to better steward and address the glaring practical realities around us.
As an LA native, I find this especially heartbreaking. And in Oasis’ efforts to be politically “neutral”, they just end up lukewarm and spiritually compromised about the most pressing social issues of our time. Planned Parenthood may as well set up shop next-door and no one would care. City Hall feels no need or inspiration to clean up its corruption.
That pizza place your Bible study used to meet at? The owner had to shut it down due to lack of affordability. That park you want to host church orientation at? It’s unsafe and smells like urine.
Our mayor visits Oasis and it’s treated like an IG photo-op! When will our church leaders ever hold her and other leaders accountable, as the fruit of their policies are hurting so many and destroying our beautiful city in very tangible and visible ways? Los Angeles and California won’t get better until people wake up and VOTE better for starters. And too many churches like Oasis remain too woke to be awake. Too blended in to be...
Read moreI've gone this church almost a year because I am an early bird so I liked 9 am service. This morning my ankle was hurt so I got Uber and arrived earlier than usual. I knew they open 8.50 am so I was sitting a chair outside but I didn't like sitting on the street. I wanted just behind building so walked sideway and found that I can standing for a few minutes before open the door. A woman came to me hello and I said hello back as like normal Christians. And she asked me check my back. Are you kidding me??????? Do I look like terrorist ? OMG can't believe this situation. I go traveling a lot so every Sunday I found church where I stayed and never happened this before and unheard of it. I am just Asian girl who is love the God and go worship in CHURCH with peace. Also one of my friends was looking for a nice church and I recommend Oasis. And she has service dog and this church refused the dog. Shame on OASIS !
I saw the owner or whoever replayed my review. My English is not perfect but Here are my questions Did you checked bag all of the people whoever entered the church door? Ha ~ Did you announce that your policy changed because these days had some bad issues in church? Church is the place for the people who love the God not the place take advantage only. If even you have to check my bag , why you didn’t tell me first that your policy changed. I always thirsty after church so I brought my own bottle water in my bag which is NO water for people in this OASIS CHURCH. I hope you know that I was very feeling safe and peaceful every Sunday in this church but no anymore. And the dog? People find church first that can allowed dog with then they will register the dog. I am not saying just normal pet. It is service dog with license so who has service dog means the dog is priority to looking for church for...
