My husband, my brother and I stayed here three nights for a trip to Universal Studios during spring break/easter week. We booked this place with the intrigue of three twin beds in a bedroom.
Our experience overall felt like we were staying over at a Tía's house or something, the place was reminiscent of an old city studio apartment rather than a hotel. Hence the home-tel.
Our room was clean upon first glance but our bathtub had a stained tub, dried out old soap on the soap tray, and a leftover mini conditioner on the shower curtain rod. We didn't mind but I still wore shower slippers just in case. My shower was super cold but by the time my husband showered he had warm water then my brother had hot water. Old pipes I guess.
We didn't experience housekeeping because we slept in each morning and they'd wake us up and we'd only give them our trash bins and requested an additional towel. But the housekeeping staff were extremely nice and they felt bad for waking us, which was fine on their part because it was already ~10am-11am.
The furniture and decor was very dorm room/amazonhome style. Accent pillows on each bed, simple lamps with USB charging ports, blackout curtains that actually worked (we slept in every morning). The room had a television with only local digital antenna channels no streaming or cable channels. There was also a mini fridge and freezer. The sink area doubled as the closet with lots of space for clothes in drawers or on the clothes rack but there weren't any hangers.
The three twin beds were cool so we'd each have a bed. However my brother is 6 feet tall and his feet dangled off the edge. Two of the beds had foam toppers and one bed didn't (my poor tall brother's bed which also had permanently stained sheets). My husband couldn't connect his CPAP machine because there wasn't a proper outlet, the nightstands had only USB ports.
The parking situation was okay, and it was free parking which was a plus. Despite it being a busy weekend, we managed parking in their garage. Saturday night we did have to park in their underground lot which they kindly let us in at 2am because the general hotel garage was full.
All in all we were grateful for a place to stay after long days at universal. Was it overpriced? A bit over I guess. 600 for three nights. But we were definitely there for a place to crash and not a luxurious...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting LA, and I chose to stay in Ktown due to its abundance of highly recommended restaurants. Here are my reflections on my recent stay:
Price: Considering the quality of the hotel, I expected more value for the price paid. The four-night stay cost approximately $700, yet the absence of amenities was noticeable.
Service: The staff were consistently helpful, offering excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants. However, I noted a lack of proactive housekeeping, as sheets were not changed, nor were extra towels provided unless requested.
Area: Regrettably, the surrounding area left much to be desired in terms of safety and cleanliness. Witnessing a mugging outside the hotel late one evening underscored the neighborhood's sketchy atmosphere, particularly when compared to other parts of the city.
Parking: I specifically sought out hotels with complimentary parking due to having a car. While this hotel offered such a perk, the parking garage's limited capacity – accommodating at most ten cars – posed a challenge, especially on busy nights. Street parking was nonexistent, necessitating reliance on the congested garage. Additionally, the requirement to surrender keys to park behind another vehicle felt inconvenient and potentially unsafe.
Room: Despite a spacious layout, several inconveniences detracted from the overall experience. Only three out of the five wall outlets were functional, necessitating unplugging the TV to access additional power sources. However, the most significant issue was the discomfort of the bed – essentially a box spring with a mattress topper. Persistent back pain throughout my stay prompted consideration of relocating to another hotel, a decision influenced by the lack of prior warnings in reviews. On a positive note, the room's cleanliness and the functionality of the bathroom met expectations.
Overall: While the service provided by the staff was commendable, my overall impression of the hotel fell short of expectations. The perceived lack of safety in the area and the uncomfortable bedding experience outweighed the positives. Consequently, I would hesitate to revisit this establishment in the future, preferring to invest in a more satisfactory...
Read moreWe stayed for two night in the Hometel Suites.
First of all the hotel itself seems a bit inconspiciuous because it's kinda located in a parking lot. Parking was more or less a problem: Close to the lobby there were like 10 spaces but all of them were used, sometimes there was even second row parking although there definitely wasn't enough space. The receptionist told us to park in the garage underneath the hotel since there would be "plenty of space". a) there was not that much space, again maybe 10 lots. b) most of them were already used or c) it was not allowed to park there until 10 p.m. because the lots belong to an asian restaurant. Until like 9.30 p.m. a man stands there and doesn't let you park here.
Other than parking, check-in etc. were easy und comfortable. The room was big enough for two persons with each having a bed. To our belongings the beds were quite comfortable, also the whole room was pretty clean and tidy. The bathroom was clean as well but rather small. At least there was a window so after having a shower fresh air could come in.
The floors were very big and located a lot of rooms. We were very surprised that in front of the room next to us there was a huge puddle of water. The receptionist told us it would be normal but still we had to walk through it to get into our room - and of course we transported some water in our room, too...
The hotel is located in Koreatown, a very busy and tight but seemingly safe environment. The streets, restaurants and stores looked a bit shady, but we had no strange encounter at all. So as far as we can say, it's a safe area to stay.
We had a very friendly receptionist, Yag. Thanks for...
