Read moreThis temple is very welcoming to everyone. It’s doesn’t matter if you’re Buddhist or just curious and want to come in. There are usually volunteers there that speak English, Mandarin, or Vietnamese. They are very friendly. They can either give you a tour of the temple and give you a brief explanation of each of the main statutes or where to put the incense. Otherwise you can just tour the temple at your own pace no one will bother you.
Photography is allowed. Donations is optional, they do work hard to keep the place clean so I recommend leaving some. Everyone there work as a volunteer. Any amount is ok!
It also a great place to come a meditate, ask for your fortune (by shaking the wooden bottle with all the wooden sticks, each stick have a number, keep shaking until 1 come out, and take that number to the board with all the yellow paper or the folder underneath and it will explain your fortune for you). However if more than one sticks fall out you must start again. Word of advice, till the bottle as you shake it, it will make it easier. Good luck :-))
I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do. I go...
Read moreI visit this temple EVERY Chinese New Year's and it is beautiful! The parking situation has it's good and bad days, but once you find a spot, then everything else makes up for it. They put on a firecracker show in the middle of Yale Street (which is mostly blocked off during CNY) and they do the dancing dragon routine too. If you like to see cultural things while in Los Angeles (or Chinatown) this would be a prefect spot for you!
Inside is breath taking, the lanterns are really bright and make for major photo ops. (Honestly the place is FULL of photo ops, but I have a thing for lanterns.) :)
Usually outside of the CNY holiday, the age range varies, there is a elementary school, or maybe it's a recreational park very close by. A large majority of the people around will help you translate, if you don't understand something or have...
