So I was in Chinatown with family and someone was handing out menus on the street. We asked the guy handing out the menu about the restaurant. He said they were new and had only been open a couple of weeks. So we walked around for a while and when it was time to eat we decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is designed in a modern style. It is very clean. So we ordered. We ordered Shrimp Rolls, Lo Mein, Fried Rice, Kung Pao Chiken, and The Hot and Sour Soup.
I wanted fried shrimp. It’s a staple with my family and they suggested the shrimp rolls, which are essentially shrimp rolled ip in a pastry dough or maybe wonton wrapper, but let me say this, Delicious. They were served in a mason jar with sauce on the side. The only thing they didn’t have was hot mustard, but it’s ok. They were still really good.
This was the opening to the rest of the dinner, the rice was great, Kung pao mmmm, lo mein was great and the soup was good.
I live in LA and my family and I eat Chinese on a regular basis. There isn’t a lot of good Chinese food in Los Angeles proper and we usually go to West Hollywood to the Kung Pao Bistro or the the Inland Empire to the China Point or if we are feeling like we want true hardcore Chinese food we head to Alhambra to Chengdu.
Well the East Garden is now on my list of favorite spots. Plus it’s like 1/2 mike from my house. The waiters were very attentive, the place was clean, the food was fresh and delicious. There is a big parking lot in front or you can park across the street in the big lot on Hill St.
Turns out the guy handing out the menus is the owner. You need to try this place it will be on your list of favorite...
Read moreThis place obviously only welcomes locals. After being on the road for a long time on our honeymoon doing route 66, we decided to stay at the best western where the lady at reception said we should try this place and we love to go by recommendations. We turned up at 8.30pm (didn’t realise they close at 9pm) no real welcome but just told they close at 9pm, at this point we should have left as obviously weren’t interested in our custom and all the staff were busy eating their own dinner (first time I’ve ever seen that in a restaurant that is still open) and when they came to our table still finishing their mouthful and food on their mouth. We were only allowed to order certain items due to the time and we felt massively rushed, whilst eating (and yes the food was lovely) we were given the check and then told to pay as the register was closing so at that point I stopped eating as obviously we had to rush. I wouldn’t mind too much as understand we were later but locals had come in after us (we know as we spoke to them), had lots of food which was still coming out after 9pm, they were not rushed to pay and would be there for quite a while seeing that they still had loads of food when we left. I explained to the waiter that we had bad service and was told I was never welcomed back. I usually go with my gut which I should have with this place and wish I had. After being in the USA for 17 days and travelled from Chicago therefore stopped in many places, this has been the worst service I’ve experienced and put a massive dampener and downer at the end of our trip. So unless you are a local…...
Read moreTruly amazing food. My standouts: The wonton noodle soup (for the noodle): the texture of the noodles was exactly like what can be found in Hong Kong where it is firm but chewy at the same time but not in a ramen noodle way (hard to explain), and I actually haven't found any restaurants that do it like that in LA, and the wontons were delicious though the broth was a bit over-peppered for my preference. The Beef chow fun: one of the best i've had because the beef was very tender, the noodles did not stick together, and the dish overall was not as oily compared to when other restaurants make it. The noodle roll w/ vegetable: great noodle texture because it was thin and bouncy, vegetables inside were slivered wood ear mushrooms, carrots, bean sprouts and green onion. The har gor: tender shrimp filling and the outer wrapper was thin and chewy. Overall, whatever they do with their noodles/wrappers is great and I could definitely distinguish theirs has better texture compared to other chinese restaurants.
Good: Fried squab: juicy and delicious. Skin was just crispy enough though I personally like it crispier. Shiu Mai: yummy Chili oil wonton: was pretty spicy, though I've had better flavor at other places.
Service was good. Quick to be seated, quick to receive requested condiments. Was there on a Saturday...
