They finally got back to me to discuss the charges. They communicated they have been very short staffed and some of my issues fell through the cracks. They are looking into some of the surprise charges and explained one of the charges that turned out to be normal, but for some reason the last two semesters showed up at the beginning of the semester. Unlike any other health provider I have ever spoken with it seems like they may actually take responsibility for the non-consensual fees and poor communication. At the very least, they seem to be trying to help.
Unfortunately I received a late fee which did turn into a bit of a process with Student Business services.
TLDR: Watch out for surprise charges. They don't ask first, even when you explain your financial situation to them.
If they get back to me like they said they would weeks ago, I will consider deleting or adjusting this post. (From November 29th, 2021) Was helpful and wonderful. Then I was transferred who I was working with and got surprise charges that were not explained to me before the transfer, and I did not consent to.
Then I called them and was told I needed to call back to ask to speak with someone in administration. Then I explained my situation to another rep. because the person I needed to speak to was not available.
The rep seemed to empathize as I anxiously explained my situation and said I would get a call back.
I never did.
Now TTU placed a hold on my registration due to these "past due charges" that were never explained to me, and no one ever contacted me about.
I actually use SHS for my mental health, and the irony is palpable.
I BARELY make ends meet as a grad student. I would love to say I am shocked at how they are conducting themselves but I guess it's part of the American Health Care system. Shut up and pay, go broke, get sick or die. Why should it be different for...
Read moreMy college age daughter had an appointment at 9:00 AM on a Friday with Texas Tech Student Health Services. She was having horrible chest pain radiating to her neck. She was seen by a physician’s assistant (PA), who did not even do blood work but told her she needed to have a chest X-ray. She was also told she couldn’t have this chest X-ray until 2:00 that afternoon. After that X-ray was completed, she was told it would not be read until Monday and was also told that the PA she saw that morning had left town at 1:00. I (her mother) called and talked to the office. I was told my daughter had prescriptions needing to be filled. I gave my pharmacy information including phone number. I was also told I would receive a call back that day from either a nurse or the PA so that I could gather more information on the assessment they did on her. I never received a call back. Prescriptions were never called in. I called their answering service to try and get someone to call me back as my daughter was still having great pain that evening. They paged for a doctor call back every FIFTEEN MINUTES for FIVE HOURS! I never had a health care provider call and was told if I was concerned, I should take her to an ER, even though she had already spent an entire day trying to get medical help. Never, ever, entrust your child or your health to this place or it’s people. Update: my daughter finally had a physician call her back the NEXT morning at 4:45 AM and he told her her chest X-ray was clear. Two days later I have had to actually take her to an ER as I have not been able to control her pain. SHE HAS...
Read moreYeah, only come here if you would like a blood clot in each lung misdiagnosed as a “pulled muscle”. My little sister had an appointment at 9:00 AM on a Friday with Texas Tech Student Health Services. She was having horrible chest pain radiating to her neck. She was seen by a physician’s assistant (PA), who did not even do blood work but told her she needed to have a chest X-ray. He was also in a hurry to leave town for the weekend. She was told she couldn’t have this chest X-ray until 2:00 that afternoon (after the PA left town...). After that X-ray was completed, she was told it would not be read until Monday. Prescriptions that needed to be filled were never called in. The answering service was called since she was still having great pain that evening. They paged for a doctor call back every FIFTEEN MINUTES for FIVE HOURS! The doctor finally called my sister back at 4:45 in the morning. Not only was he condescending, but he said her chest X-ray was clear. My sister was in horrible pain for six days before finally being correctly diagnosed in Amarillo with two pulmonary embolisms. She had a sizable blood clot in each lung. We’re so glad she’s still ok, thanks to the thoughtful doctors of NorthWest who took the time to properly examine her. The damage this Texas Tech PA could have done by rushing and prioritizing his weekend plans over my sisters life is gut wrenching....
